Atos home visit

Just wanted to let you know that before we went to Keilder I saw my GP. I asked if she would be willing to fax ATOS to ask for a home visit for my medical assessment.. I wasn't sure if she would but without hesitation she said that she wouldn't think of me having to go there, especially to have to sit around for possibly hours etc and with the way my stomach has been too.
I am still really stressing over the visit BUT I'm very very relieved that I do not have to go to them, I've had to in the past and have come home in terrible pain after sitting around etc.

I am quite certain that the original GP's I joined when moving here would not have done it..

I have had a letter from ATOS confirming that I will have a home visit and now it is a matter of waiting for them to arrange it. It was to be on Monday.
I hope it is fairly soon so I can get it over and done with. I hate the while thing.

I'm so pleased they are coming to you mate - don't stroke Ra too enthusiastically else they'll declare you fit for everything! Let us know the date so we can get ourselves organised. DD

    Thanks DD..
Don't worry, I won't even breathe out, just in, in case they think I can go get a job blowing out candles at old people's birthday parties

Try not to worry about it , Tony , but be sure to moan ,groan and howl if you move a muscle . The notification for a home visit from your doctor must have acted in your favour so just try to relax . Jillyb

For heaven's sake, Tony, do breathe out. If you turn blue they'll find you a job as a trainee smurf.

I hope it goes well. I'm sure having to have a home visit should count in your favour.

Please could you avoid talking about 'a job blowing bubbles' in future. I inadvertently misread it.

so glad Valval asked "what is atos" - I was thinking exactly the same thing but didn't want to look like a numpty by asking.

Whatever it is - good luck - hope everything works out positively for you x

    Hi Tony,
Glad your GP had the sense to ask for a home visit. I know it's easier said than done but try to chill out about it, what will be will be, just make sure you are nice and achey when they come, so the stiff movement and groans come naturally, you can always dose yourself up with pain relief afterwards.
Isn't it terrible that we have to carry on like this just to get what we're entitled to :x The cheating minority make it difficult for all the genuine people and they're more likely to get it than us without any genuine proof!!! Sorry, it just makes me so mad
Hopefully all will go well, keep us up to date and I hope you're not feeling too bad at the moment,

    Sue x

Thank you everyone for your messages. I wish they could see me right now, I'm in so much pain for daring to attempt to enjoy myself for a few days..
What was I thinking eh? Lol
I was sooooooo frustrated with myself up there as I would have loved to have gone for walks etc Did spend a fair bit of time just reading in the lodge, I suppose it was a nice place to be stick in though, the views were spectacular.. I was stuck in bed most of one of the days, but I put some bird seed on the windowsill and the little birds kept me company while those three went for a short walk to the bird hide, no way I could have made it at that point..

Right now my hands are swollen and painful from using the crutches, elbows painful too as are the knees.. Got a fuzzy head from the oromorph.. It's sgml back to normal then. Haha

Thanks again folks, I hope you are all ok?

I'm pleased for you, ATOS can be awful for keeping to time. The first time I went for a medical, I sat in a crowded waiting room for over 2 hours and as it was late afternoon in Dec. it was getting dark. Then the crowd started to thin out and in the end I was the only person (with my husband) left and the staff started drifting home. At about 5pm the receptionist came over to us and said that the doctor had gone home and their was no one to see me. We'd travelled about 15 miles over snowy lanes, to get their and my husband, who works in a school, had to arrange cover for his time off.

They gave me another appointment in January but it was 30miles of driving in the snow to get there, which was so annoying. Hope its a good medical, much better in your home, you'll be more relaxed. Good Luck. Love Sue

thanks once again everyone. I do appreciate it.
I'll let you know when I hear from them..

Sue, I think it's disgusting the way they kept you waiting around for nothing hun. Bet your bum that they would have stopped your money if you hadn't have turned up.. Absolutely shocking.. Did you complain? I can understand if you didn't as you probably didn't want to stir up trouble..

    Tony

Now this may seem a bit ridiculous, well it is actually. But I have been told that if the dr that comes and sees you at home spies any pets in your home, they do take that into consideration in your medical!!

I think its something to do with bending down to feed them, you know what they are like, assume everything,so they may assume you can bend to feed them, walk them if you have a dog, walk to the door several times a day to let pet in and out (dog/cat).
Sounds far fetched I realise, but it could be a case of shipping them out to friends, kennels for that day.

Lots of luck for home medical

I will look for something in the trolley, I am sure we have special t bags.

I hope they don't keep you hanging, it is already ridiculous that they have to come see you at all, what don't they understand about disability, pain, care needs, trying to cope with daily living.............best be quiet, or I will go on all night. XX hugs Bubbles

my visit from the Atos healthcare worker i didnt realise he was noting down absolutely anything and everything... i had previously put my 2 great danes in the kitchen as the Dr was expected at 11am, i left the kitchen door open but had the dog gate closed, i then told the Dr i would close the door as they would whine to be let in and out of site was out of mind didnt want the Dr to feel intimidated by them both, maybe i shouldnt have as he made the point 'even managed to close the kitchen door using the handles normally... have pm'ed u Tony so u have ideas, but i have just spoken to a friend whose husband had to go the Atos Dr's office he is in a wheelchair and asked him to do all sorts of stuff... such a load of old nonsense, just remember to ask them to do things for u if ur alone! xx
    love and hugs
