So the surgeon said " take off the air boot" and "how does the foot feel?" .
So I said "like it doesn't belong to me" and "what happens now?"
So he said "Walk on it"
So i said " yeah right, lol!"
So he said "Thats why I fixed it"

I totally freaked out. After 12 weeks of being S**t scared of even touching it to the ground the thought of even putting it flat on the ground let alone walking on it was mind blowing. I asked for physio because as i reminded him, my body issues are more than just about the foot op and his interest is only in the orthopedic side and I dont see a rheumy.

I have to wean myself of the air cast by gradually putting more andmore weight on the foot and in between ( I suppose when Im not at work) start to use the foot again.

By 10pm tonight I plucked up the courage and - using a stick in one hand I walked like Frankenstein from one side of the bedroom to the other - and promptly burst into tears! My god, my foot actually worked - even if it was in a strange way. Did I finally see the light at the endof the Tunnel

Dear Carol, you are so brave! Well done you for putting your fears aside and going for it  it will take time to get used to it and you may well be tired from all the exertion, it's great to know that the op has worked, and very soon you will be back to your best.
Well done again Carol, you're a brave lady Xxx

Well done! It feels like a huge mountain I bet? It does get easier and easier, I promise you. Do what you feel you can and don't push yourself. YOU know your body and know how far you can go. Take it easy. If you're anything like I was you'll leap forward for a while and then feel like you're not going anywhere. Take it a day at a time and in a few weeks, you'll look back and think.........WOW, look at me now!

thankyou all for your replies and kind thoughts

After three weeks ive finally got used to the aircast boot and it feels strange without it on! At work today I had the boot on but was definately putting more weight on it and was on the crutches most of the day. foot felt fine. When I got home and took boot off, my body protested at the change of stance and centre of gravity whenever I tried to put my flipper foot down on the ground to stand, let alone try to walk. My hips are definately not going to like this!!! Still scared I dont really know what to do without some guidance from the physio, my leg is so thin and I dont know howto begin to build up the muscles again let alone bend the flipper!!!

    Hi Carol,
Great news that you can now begin to put weight on to the foot all be it very tentatively. I am sure it does feel very weird for you but you will get there in the end I am sure. Just be patient with yourself and go at your own pace. I hope the phyiso will give you some reassurance when you get your appointment.
