England match and poppies

Some of you may know that I am on the committee at my local Royal British Legion and I feel that I dont do enough at this time of year, even though I shame teenagers that come into my home and cab drivers into buying Poppies.
Everyone knows a little football team called England are playing a little match against someone else on Saturday, at a little place called Wembley.....Well I have to sell Poppies there, and there is a chance that when the match starts, we will be kicked out.
Who knows a journo or two, that we can call on because there will only be three of us and we cannot cover all the entrances and exits.
I personally dont give a damn about football, but I do care about selling Poppies and Remembrance Sunday and want to get as much money as possible for the RBL.
I am in full Arthur flareup at the moment but maybe that will help as I will move so slowly out of the ground that the cleaners will be there by the time I will get out

Hi Geri,
I am aware the team are not allowed to wear a poppy but surely nobody can stop you selling them to members of the public,or is it they are banning you from Wembley. If you are not actually in the ground I don't see what they being the FA can do.
I personally think the whole thing is discusting. If our national team want to wear them they should be allowed to do so.
Best of luck May0 -
The team are now allowed to wear an embroidered poppy on their black armband.
We, as Poppy sellers will be allowed to sell inside the ground but there is a possibility that we will have to leave at the start. If so, I shall try my best to stay.
Believe me, If you read my past posts, I am a live now, live with the pain later type person and if I do get asked to leave I shall go to every bar in the area and sell more.
I am that bloody minded though, that I shall show the Bu@@ers up, and they really dont need any more bad press this week :evil
Ps I am quite a nice person reallyGeri XXX0 -
I'm sure you are a nice person.
I sincerely hope you sell loads for all our servicemen and women past and present, this whole situation has really maddened me.
My dad lost an arm in WW2 and my Great uncle was at the battle of the Somme,so this is something I feel strongly about.
Again let me wish you well. May0 -
Hi Geri
Hope you sell lots of poppies. I bought mine yesterday.

Right..We all at the Legion have made a decision
We are now planning on getting into the hospitality areas of the ground, but if that fails, we have a secret weapon... We will hit the X factor studio which is 2 minutes up the roadGeri XXX0 -
hi Geri,
good to see you flower!
i hope you can get in the hospitality areas and sell a lot. i always have worn a poppy and it became more important when a couple of good mates got killed in the Falklands (my partner was a matlo but although injured he didn't die) i always think of Ardent and Sheffield especially.
good luck flower and hope you get a gentle time there... hey love the idea of gate crashing the x-factor Cris xx0 -
Good luck Geri
Hopefully with all the media coverage on the subject this week the public will unite to show their support that poppies should be worn with pride in honour of the fallen and you will sell lots.0 -
I don't think you will have a problem selling poppies or getting donations. However some supporters hit the local pubs and only come out just before the match starts. I think you will do well!

Ok I had Steroid Injection on Wed, and I have sooo overdone it....But there was a shedload af Miss Pretties thinking they can smile and sell a poppy.
Nah..We were first out and last in.. but the rest were hoping to go in the ground.
Whereas we got 'em at source, I walked down Empire Way, (Hobbled Back)
Yelling that we were selling poppies and you had to wear one, if only to hack FIFA off.
I have bruised arms because my bucket was sooo heavy, (now known as Poppy Pox)
Teens were putting tenners in.
Believe it peeps. We can be proud of our youngsters todayGeri XXX0 -
Hi Geri,
Very likely you will suffer today but all in a fantastic cause.
You should be proud of yourself, really well done.
The youth of today are only painted bad by the media as most are decent law abiding folk, some who very probably have had mates who have lost there lives in Afgan.
I watched the match,a sea of red and I'm not talking about the Spanish team, and we won.
I for one am proud of our young men and women.
Again, well done you and I hope you had a reasonable nights sleep. May0 -
I knew you'd do well. The message is we owe so much to a whole generation. Well done Geri, wonderful that you put so much effort in to help others in need.
