Plaquenil and Arcoxia

Hi
Can anyone give me any advice on Plaquenil and Arcoxia which I have been taking for 18 months. I had to stop taking both a month ago due to a sudden very bad skin reaction and creatinine blood tests were also showing abnormalities. Having stopped them I am now experiencing painful joints similiar to when I was diagnosed with RA in January 2010 and am not sure if it is due to the stopping of these meds. I am still on MTX and paracetomol daily, but that is it now.

Trees,
Sorry to hear that not is all good at the moment..
Can you not try an alternative drug?? what has your GP suggested?? maybe you need to talk to GP see if they can sort anything out for you..Would presume your symptoms may have increased due to stopping of plaquenil, but i am not a doctor ...
Hope you feel better soon..xxxTracyxx0 -

Hi Trees
welcome to the forums from me.
I am on both of those meds too and so far have been fine. Pretty well taken them non-stop for 3/4 years with no major problems. Having said that the arcoxia l do only take when needed as there is a history of heart issues in my family.
I would be going back to the docs too if l were you no wonder the symptoms are back for you. You are one DMARD down and an anti-inflammatory too
Love

I too would imagine that stopping the Plaquenil could have this effect. It's not a super effective dmard on it's own but teamed with methotrexate can be very powerful, I think your doc will need to look at adding in another dmard to improve your symptoms! Perhaps another painkiller could help in the mean time as a new dmard can take weeks to have full effect.
Good luck!0 -
Hi everyone
Thank you for your messages, I have finally made apt with my doctor for next week to sort out medication, left it too long I know, but like I said before, just hate keep bothering them, but soon be sorted i'm sure. Have had RA for only a couple of years and still can't get my head around it all and what is happenning to me, I am well aware that others are literally crippled with pain etc and do consider myself lucky not to be that bad, but sometimes just gets a bit too much, ho hum.
Thanks again and shall let you know how I get on next week.
Happy weekend everyone :-)0 -
Hi Trees and welcome to the forum
Sorry that the two meds you mentioned have caused you problems. I hope when you visit your gp next week that they can try you on something else that will help ease your pain and stiffness,
Take care

Hi everyone
Finally went back to doctors today and have been given 500mg of Naproxen to take twice a day to keep me going until I go back to see consultant in a couple of weeks time. :-)0
