Do you mind seeing anothe GP, Del? They should be able to do that for you..... I quite often would have to wait a week to see my own gp. Sometimes seeing another GP can give good results.

 It is strange how with a bit of "polite" persistance, an appointment can magically appear on the receptionists screen.

Sound like you had a good overhaul Del.

    Good for you Del
I remember when I was waiting for an appointment to see a back specialist his secretary said no chance for a few more weeks....then after chatting she magically found a free appointment??? I said....where did that come from  she said I keep a few appointments free for cases I think need to be seen quickly
    So there you are

Just seen this about your appointment problems , Del , my GP also has a system of phone at 8 each day , I unashamedly play the crip card and tell the receptionist that it's awkward being messed about when disabled ! I get my appointment ; there seem to be a few vacancies held at the discretion of the receptionist . Jillyb

The practice manager of my local surgery told me they have "red" appointments which are not available if you just phone up but can be made available for emergencies. I found this out after complaining about one of their GPs.

Another trick you can try is requesting a home visit, they sometimes magic an appointment out of thin air rather than sending a GP out to you. If you just want to talk to a doctor about something and don't need to be examined then sometimes they will call you back after surgery. They can advise you over the phone and even leave prescriptions at reception for you.

You really havew to know how to play the game to get the best service out of your GP surgery!

This has just reminded me of the ex GP.....
You could phone for an appointment in the afternoon but it took at least a week before you got one.
The morning surgery.....you couldnt ring.....you had to go down to the surgery and ask to see a doctor and she would say..."he'll see you at 9am or 9.10am or whatever the first vacant slot was. To be nearly first you had to be there about 8am and his first appt was 9am
So if someone came at about 9am it was likely to be 10am before they were seen. You could leave once you had made the appt and come back but what a hassle especially with arthritis.
Prescriptions were the same....had to go there in person and ask for a repeat, then go and collect it when it was ready then take it to the chemist.

sorry for the rant.....thank goodness I changed docs
