Afternoon/Evening all,
I have been enduring the arduous task of filling in a DLA form. I'm struggling to make answer some of the questions despite advice from the helpline and reading their info on it. I wondered if anyone here could help me out a bit please.
I've managed to work out my walking speed by measuring my garden (12 metres) and seeing how long it took me. I can only walk 50 metres in a minute which counts as 'slow'. I assume it's ok to do it like this. I'm going to repeat it again a few times and take an average.
With regards to how far I can walk and for how many minutes without severe discomfort, well I can't seem to quantify 'severe' discomfort. I can walk for up to 20 minutes on a good day but it does leave me in a lot of pain but I need to get to university somehow so I push through it. Today, I thought the dog would appreciate me practicing my walking time but as soon as I got past the front garden, my feet were already throbbing. Should I take a short walk every day for a week and take an average? I have explained in detail that my RA fluctuates. Some days a gentle stroll down the road with my dog is not too horrendous but some days I'm housebound. I still have to answer the question though. I feel bad writing X amount if I can do more on a good day.
I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance. I'm so tempted to throw the form in the bin but it's taken me hours (and my ever so patient secretary aka my lovely mum) and it seems worth a shot.
Thanks for reading,
Sophie x
