I could do with a bit of advice please!!
I live in France and have RA, I take Mtx and Humira. I've been having a very bad flare over the last month and have been fiddling around with various meds to try and improve things. The only thing that has helped has been 20mg Cortisone, but I know I shouldn't take it without advice and have just phoned my rheumy for some help.
Now, I can struggle by most the time with the language, but with a speed talking busy rheumy on the telephone I'm a bit lost!
She doesn't want me taking Cortisone and would prefer I take an anti-inflamitory instead. I suggested Ibuprofen and questioned that I thought it shouldn't be taken with Mtx, but she seemed to say it was ok - although by this time I think she was losing patience with my language incompetence!! I think she said I could also take paracetemol?
It's taken me a couple of weeks to pluck up the courage to phone her and now I wish I hadn't bothered!
I fear of taking an overdose here - anybody out there put my mind at rest?!! I suppose I could go and chat to the pharmacie, although she will probably say ask a GP..... :???:

I have heard a few doctors say you can take Ibuprofen when on MTX however I think it depends on the doctor and what dose of MTX you are on. I think it people on low doses they possibly don't think its too much of a problem, however I would unfortunately say you would need to speak to your doctor about it just in case!0

I was on ibuprofen and Meth at the same time for a few months, but it didn't work for me, no nasty side effects etc, just didn't make a difference.
You shouldn't take ibuprofen if you suffer from asthma.
Hope this helps.0 -
Hello, it's nice to meet you. I too am on meth and humira for PA and still flare from time to time despite them. I have always had an anti-inflammatory with all the meds, there are a few options around here but I don't know about France. Cortisone is efffective for some but it is very bad for one for long-term use: I have devoted this year to getting off it (after five years of taking it and yes, it is the only thing that makes a palpable difference) and life is tough but to stay on it would only make life tougher and I don't need that. I think you need to see your GP and chat things over with him, and reduce the cortisone under his guidance: it is not a drug one can start and stop at will. I wish you well. Hello , can anyone help me with advice about methotrexate in regards to polymyalgia rheumatica . How beneficial is this medication and to what degree does it help ? Is MTX a treatment for the symptons or a cure ? Furthermore , does a cure for P.R. exist out there ? Many Thanks from Viv.0

OK, I went to see my GP yesterday evening - better to be safe than sorry - and she has prescribed me Celebrex plus an anti-upset-tummy drug. I've taken the first dose of both this morning, so hope it will kick in soon and do as the cortisone was doing.0

Hey ,
I was prescribed 600mg Ibuprofen with MTX for 9 months. Whilst it is said to be safe, my nurse advised me to only take the Ibuprofen when absolutely necessary, if I was in alot of pain. We all know that too much medication can be harmful to the liver!! I must say that the Ibuprofen didn't really help me much, they just took a slight edge off to enable me to do things better for a short period of time. I hope you find something that helps you soon

Hi crabtree123, may I suggest that you repost by clicking on the new topic button, giving your post a title and then re-stating your question, then more people will spot it and may reply. You could well be missed as your question is in Kellis's thread which is about a slightly different aspect of meth. I take it for my PA, I don't know about it for PmR, so I'm sorry I cannot help. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
