Back pain

I have had a bad few days with my back, being unable to walk due to the pain on saturday without crying..
It has eased off now and i'm back to smiling, but have never felt back pain like it and was quite taken aback by it
Does anyone else suffer like this and is it all related to arther??
I am still waiting for my xray results on back, hips and pelvis and am due to have mri on brain and spinal cord so maybe will know bit more then, was just curious to other peoples experiences..
Thanks

Hi Tracy
Yip I get awful back pain....mostly in the lower back...but recently I am having niggles higher up..I have had a couple of MRIs and the read out showed that I had a couple of unstable disc..and a narrowing of a disc...hence the back pain and sciatic....I am waiting to have my first THR, and it is hard to tell which is giving the most pain.
The one thing that really help me was gabapentin, I couldnt have managed without it.
I do hope you get your results soon, wishing you well with it allLove

I am waiting for my prescription of gabepentin which neuro prescribed..Be great if it helps with my back, is that because of nerves in the back that cause the pain and that why gabapentin helps???xxTracyxx0 -
Hi Tracy
I was told it stops the pain from pinched nerve in the back, I dont think they are sure how it works...something to do with braking the pain signals to and from the brain.
I think I am right in saying it is an epilepsy drug, hope that helps a little.Love

I am new to this site having recently been diagnosed with RA, however, I have been taking Gabapentin for a good few years due to having MS (lucky me having both, lol) they are good for pain but the downside is they make you put on a lot of weight, what a choice pain or weight gain. I also take Tramadol which is good for pain.

Hi Sylvia,
Welcome to the forum..
I am hoping the gabapentin will work for me, i could do with putting on some weight so i don't mind lol..I take tramadol too..so hopefully will get some benefits..Thanks for the reply..xxTracyxx0 -
My back is unhappy every now and again but I put it down to walking or sitting awkwardly. It's worse in the night as I tend to lie in one position for hours: to move I have to wake, I don't move in my sleep anymore. I hope the gabapentin works and that you are able to start it soon. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thanks for that i will be googling chillow pillow, never heard of them before,
got my gabapentin yesterday so will see how i get on..xxTracyxx0 -
hi I saw my Dr last night for a diabetic check and we disgussed my OA, he thinks the sharp pains in my back could be caused by the OA affecting nerves which makes sense, I also told him about my chillow pillow and he himself is going to look at them and recomend them to others think I deserve a cut from their profits lol,0

Lol a cut would be good..
I have not been told what my problems are yet, still having tests, but am presuming nerves are involved due to gabapentin lol..
You have OA in back??xxTracyxx0 -
I had missed this thread, but was alerted to it by a spammer
How are you doing now Traluvie? Have you found out what was causing the pain? Have you had treatment?
I am really suffereing at the moment and gabapentin is the only thin touching the pain slightly. I can't stand due to severe nerve pain in lower back and going down leg, which then gives way. Then my neck is excruciating and pressing on the nerves and arteries causing nausea and dizziness (my gp expalanation)
I have had mris showing collapsed disks etc and severe degenerative disk disease and spondylosis, am being referred to orthopaedics for suggestion as to how to treat.
Would be really interested to hear how you are getting on.0 -
Hi Tracy.
How are you going on?
My back is being a real swine again right now.. Plenty of sciatica too.. :x
I'm waiting for smithing called radiofrequency lesion treatment on the lower back. Being done through the pain clinic.. I've had OA in lower spine for many yrs and the pain has never fully gone away.. So I'm hoping this new thing works..
I'm rather fed up with it now..
Best wishes hun. Let us know how you're going on with the meds.Me-Tony

Hi Tracey, Hope your back pain is easing alittle, I too am suffering with lower back pain because of this flare up and would try anything to help it. I looked in to the Chillow Pillow and at £26.99 is a lot of money to try something that MAY work. Glad to see you back posting!0

Hi all..
Well my back has eased up a bit since starting the gabapentin, but its still there giving me gip lol.. I am jsut putting it down to OA at mo till i go back and see neuro later this month..
Always something eh?? lolxxTracyxx0 -
Hi Traluvie. Long time, no 'see'. Sorry, I've been away but I have missed you. I'm glad the back's easing up a little. My Mum was plagued by what she referred to as 'these cheap backs!' It's no fun and you have enough to deal with without that. Hope the gabapentin keeps helping. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Tracy
I sympathise with the back problems.
I have kypho scoliosis......and arthur in my spine....On the whole its not bad but at the moment I can hardly move.
I've over done it this past month......using my rollator and walking all the time instead of using my scooter for long trips. I felt all right at the time but dont we always
I cant take gaberpentin because I have epilepsy {controlled } but when a nurse saw that i was down for that before my THR she said no.....it would clash with my epilepsy tablets. I'm on paracetamol and naproxen. I find standing is much worse than walking.
((((()))))
Love

I use the blue gel backs for cooling my back/neck/shoulder/legs - wherever I need it. They are long and thin though so I've got an old cushion cover and put some cheap rice in it and bunged that in the freezer. You can heat it up too like a wheat bag.0
