I use repeat pescriptions alot, and order them on-line it's easier for me and I get them delivered to my home. I always make sure when I see my G.P or another in the practice, or have a phone consultation with my G.P that my repeat pescription is updated. And I know for a fact that I did this when I went and saw a G.P a fortnight ago because he added another med to the list. I also remember asking my G.P when I had a phone consultation last Friday.
So when I sent in a repeat pescription this morning the last thing I expected was to receive an email back this afternoon! I only spotted it because I checked my emails on my phone! I rang the G.P's and spoke to the pescription desk and they said it hadn't been updated and that I couldn't get a slot to speak to a G.P for 4 days which would mean I would be without any meds for 4 days! I was horrorfied as I was 100% sure the pescription had been updated.
I just can't believe that a situation such as this could mean a patient could have no medication for days!! And that something like a repeat pescription can't be topped up in a simple way so that the patient always has meds and the doctor can go on their daily business. Instead of a situation like this occours. At the moment I'm upset and fuming and still haven't heard back I only have enough meds to get me to tomorrow night!

    Bubbadog,
I too order online but have to allow 72 hours as I have my script taken to a pharmacy near to my place of work. Can you not have a telephone consultation with your surgery and then get an appt to have an official review. It seems a waste of an appt to me mind you, but hey ho, if that's the way they want to play it!
Good luck - I hope you get your meds.

I re-order a week in advance, I note renewal dates in my diary and keep a record of what I've ordered. There has been the occasional slip up but I have never truly run out of meds - it's about the only thing on which I am organized. I hope you can get it sorted soon. DD

Sounds a bit of a nightmare, Bubbadog. I guess all practices vary somewhat. I always make sure I have a week's supply left whatever the situation. New meds occasionally take a day or two to get into the computer system. I hope you're sorted by now.

I'd like to think they will message your GP and he will sort it immediately. Unless he has gone away for the 4 days it could be sorted quickly.

I always get mistakes on my prescriptions. I made it quite clear to pharmacist that my MTX had been reduced but still got the old amount. I don't like having too many tablets about, my drawyer is full as it is. And they keep changing the rules without letting me know so I get a shock when I order!

    Hi
I hope you've managed to get your prescription sorted out correctly.

I'm often amazed at how rude the reception staff are at the doctors surgery! They don't seem to take into consideration the elderly or those with disabilities! The system at our surgery is archaic and you have to stand in line (which is almost impossible for me) and wait until the one receptionist is finished on the phone or running around trying to get something signed for a patient. One person on reception whicle 8 other staff are behind typing! They can't see the queue because of the way the surgery reception area is designed.

I'm often tempted to tell them but wonder how I would be treated when I next visit!!!!

I check my prescription before I leave the surgery these days as on a couple of occasions I've come out with other people's prescriptions attached to mine or they've missed something off!

You rant away I'm not surprised you're cross!

Thanks for your replies, the older doctor's receptionists are rude and think they are the 'boss' of the reception!! I know one of my doctor's admin staff she is younger than me and she wouldn't of let happen what happened yesterday. When my OH got home is was ready to kill somebody! Because I was so stressed and was minutes off having a sezuire because I was getting dizzy and my eyes where rolling up and down. He rang the doctor's and spoke to the surgery manager and hey presto 10mins later a doctor rang was all oppologetic and promised a pescription would be delivered with urgent on it and the pescription was updated. It's amazing how a rant and a OH rant can get things done!

Its a nightmare trying to keep up with them all isn't it?
Here some things you can have tons some things and others 30 at a time when you use x3 a day that's 10 days. Anyway I've tried arguing that - it didn't work.
My solution (dont laugh) I have a box himself bought from a fishing shop.
Its much bigger than ususal pill box things. I can store x5 days and it has several compartments. If something is running low its much easier to spot it.
    Hope it helps.
