Oral thrush

I have been on Enbrel for nearly 7 years and it has made such a difference to my life, As we all know, any sign of infection etc and it has to be stopped temporarily.
For the past few weeks I have suffered from terrible oral thrush and a continuous cough so it was off the Enbrel.
Visit to doc, antibiotics for cough with no effect and also Nystan for the thrush. What wonderful stuff I thought only to find out that once I`d finished the course back came the thrush, this happened on two occasions. Doc thought it could be B12 deficiency but blood tests ruled that out.
As we know RA causes Sjorgens syndrome ie dry eyes and dry mouth. Does anyone out there suffer from oral thrush and if so what are the causes and remedies.
It feels as if I am swallowing sand paper, it`s not a minor inconvenience, it`s driving me nuts.
Doc says it`s Enbrel, Rhemmy says no. Help!!

Hi, you need a systemic treatment a 14 day course of oral antifungal tablets. I think they are called diflucan. It is important to get a hold of the infection. It loves sugar, are your sugar levels ok?0

I fought for a year to get rid of my oral thrush but as it was a side-effect of a daily med it was a pointless battle. I stopped the med instead (it was not doing anything anyway) but despite a much clearer/cleaner tongue stuff still tastes funny. I emapthise with this, it's horrid. What other meds are you on with the enbrel? Could it be to do with them? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Don't antibiotics kill the good as well as the bad bactria unfortunately :?: Have you tried natural yogurt for the thrush? For oral and throat thrush you could try to eat natural yogurt two or three times a day. You may want to hold the yogurt in your mouth for a few seconds before swallowing.Well, it definitely would not do you any harm and may help you. Avoid taking a drink for at least half an hour after eating.
Thrush is truly debilitating. I am sorry that you are suffering along with the cough too.

The thrush csn cause the cough and of course antibiotics will worsen the thrush. Anti fungals and a strong does ar only way to clear it up. I was told to tell the rheumy as it is a symptom not to be ignored.
I hope you can get rid of the unpleasant side effetc.0 -
Hi, I've got it at the moment and I had it for the first time about 6 weeks ago. My GP gave me NYstatin and put it on my repeat form, so I can get it quickly.
She said that once you've had it, it tends to stay dorment in the body, but if you get down with a cold or some other bug, it gives it a chance to come back at your poor tired body! I started taking my nystatin yesterday and it is soothing already.
I don't have RA, I have OA and they think, Fibro that, probably makes the immune system low, I don't really know. Sorry, I can't be any more help. If its not getting better I'd take it to the doctor. Take care, love Suexxx0
