Spondylitis and gritty eyes?

Hi all.

Was wondering how many of you have had any problems with eyes. In one of mine it feels like there's grit in the corner but there's nothing there. (It's not painful atall). Also it has been very watery.

I know this can be a problem for sufferers but my question is do I need to get it sorted? It's not causing me much grief.

Thanks in advance.

I've read and re-read your post spondy, and the conclusion I draw from it is that only you will know whether it is something to be pursued, I don't think we can't tell you. It is sometimes tempting to relate everything that happens to us to whatever arthritis we have but occasionally stuff happens that is not in the slightest bit related - it happens just because we are human. Whatever it is, I hope it settles soon. DD

I too have gritty , dry eyes due to sjongrens syndrome related to my RA . I find artificial / natural tears invaluable too ; if you pay for your scrips it's cheaper to buy them over the counter , £2 or £3 pound a time usually ( last for a month ) . As already said by DD though , ask the doc as what suits me might not suit you ! Jillyb

    Hi Spondy

l think a few of us with arthritis/inflamaotory types and OA do get 'dry' eyes. They can water because the are dry.

You could see your doc/optician about this or you can buy artificial tears over the counter and use them several times a day (as it says on the box) really makes a difference.

    Love

hi, for the last few weeks my eyes sting and burn for a few seconds when I close them. It dosnt happen when I blink and not every time I close them but it is uncomortable, is this how others experience dry eyes? I must remember to book and eye test but have a shocking memory!

    Thanks all for the replies.

Since writing this post I've started to have a bit of pain too, this is all happening in the corner of my eye (the tear duct). Was thinking maybe that is was the start of iritus. Phoned the surgery but can't get through.

You could ask the optician about dry eyes, they can check for you. A chemist can help prescribe eye meds.

Well thankyou! Feels like I've got grit in my tear duct, and pain earlier, which has eased off. If it persists I'll get some eyedrops-thankyou!

    Hi
Yes I would get it checked out......I remember being diagnosed with dry eyes and my eyes were watering.....I said but they aren't dry  optician said the tear ducts could be blocked a bit and it wasnt proper tears that were coming out of my eyes??? Not saying this is you....just mentioning how silly it sounds to have dry eyes but they water  See your opticianLove

Dry eyes can manifest itself as gritty eyes, or watery or with a discharge in the mornings. I didn't even realise I had dry eyes till I was tested. Mine were so dry the eyelid would stick to the eye and not open at all. The eyedrops are so soothing.

    Hi
It sounds as if you may have dry eyes. Yes, get it checked out. It's quite common, according to my optician, for arthritis sufferers to have this condition. I have to use gel tears. My eyes are always sore when I wake up during the night and first thing in the morning. The gel tears help to keep them moistened.
