It seems to vary depending on where you live, unfortunately.
In our area I have heard you can either wait to see the surgeon of your choice but that could be 6 months or so to get the first consultation or go to another hospital and see another surgeon much faster.

Hi Merylmax
I have been waiting 21 weeks today for my op that was supposed to be done within 3 weeks.
3 weeks ago I had to go for a 3rd pre op because they are now sending me to a private hospital. I am still waiting for a date from them,
(in my case I am not sure if the problem is I need a hdu bed????)
I have just heard on the radio about problems with waithing lists, I am in that 10% category that is kept waiting.
(hope I get my letter today  eh?)

About 61 weeks for my first synovectomy: January 2001 I was told it would happen by that summer, it eventually took place on 27 Feb 2002. For the emergency removal of an ovarian cyst in September 2001 - about four hours from diagnosis - a much more reasonable time scale!
We have an increasing and aging population and resources are becoming more and more stretched. The way things are going I reckon delays like my first one are not going to be that unusual. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Mel have the others have said..it is dependant on your NHS trust....here it was 3 months for a THR...now they are saying 6 months....serves me right for delaying it..hope you get an early appointment..and dont forget they could offer you one if they get cancellation..Love

It all depends on what your waiting for, if it's just a day case it can be 2-4 weeks. If it's a larger more complicated operation it can be months! It's all to do with money I'm afraid! The bigger the operation the more money it costs due to staff, stay and after care!0

I waited around 6 weeks for my first op - which was a denervation, but am now waiting for a date for a bone fusion which could be 12 weeks wait. I live in Wigan and am under the care of Wrightington Hospital. Reading these posts I'm worried now that I might be waiting longer!0

You can find out the approximate waits if you do a search. I think here it's about 13 - 14 weeks.Sue (Cloud9)0

I just rang my Consultant's secretary who gave me the number of the waiting list/admissions administrator. I've rang them and they have given me a rough idea of when to expect my op date.0
