Hi, I've just been diagnosed with RA. My RF and CCP very high and I have pain in joints but not too much swelling. Rheumatologist is putting me on methotrexate.

Does this drug also help with the exhaustion and general feeling of being unwell? (Because although my joints are painful, the most debilitating thing is the exhaustion).

many thanks v

    Hi VictoriaPlum
Don't know if RA is directly responsible for the exhaustion and not feeling well.I have RA (andOA) and have been on MTX for several years and has vastly improved things and no side effects.
Prior to this medication the constant pain and effort to move and to carry out the simplest of tasks I found very exhausting (even used to nod off halfway through a conversation!).Once the pain had gone the exhaustion went with it.
Hope everything goes ok for you

Hello and welcome, I have RA as well and have been on methotrexate for 3 years now and it has worked very well for me, I only seem to get one yukky day a week and thats the day I take my tablets. I know I do seem to go through odd spells when I feel exhausted but I think good old fashion rest and not trying to do too much really helps me, but touch wood most of the times I feel 100% better now.

I hope it works as well for you - good luck

Welcome to the forum. I've been on Methotrexate now for a couple of years. For the most part I believe the methotrexate does help but it takes a couple of months to get going if you know what I mean. I remember how I was before I started it and am glad to be on it.
Try to pace yourself and get as much rest as you can. I'm still working but have had to cut my hours.
    Take good care, Rita.

    Welcome.

I have been on Meth for 2 years now and its a great drug. I wouldn't be able to do everyday things without it.

It does take a couple of months for it to get into your system, so you will feel a bit yucky during this time, but it will pass. I don't feel sick at all now. Just remember to take a sickness tablet the day after.

    Hope it works for you.

Thanks everyone that makes me feel a bit relaxed about it.

I heard it is a toxic drug so was a bit worried.

I do have another dilemma. I'm 40 now and haven't given up the hope of having childrne but told not to get pregnant while on the drug as it's dangerous for foetus.

Hi V.P, I was on Meth for 4yrs, it worked well till became allergic, severe mouth ulcers, throat that nearly closed but was fine when came off.

I believe (someone correct me if im wrong ), u have to be off meth for sometime before you even attempt to become pregnant.
Maybe u should ask rheummy nurse to be sure
, nice meeting you, take care and all the best
