Athrodisc

Hi, am posting this on behalf of my dad who has the start of arthritis in his hip. It's not showing on the x-ray as yet, the ligament is wearing and is causing him pain. He has seen a product called Athrodisc and is contemplating purchasing it but it is costly and I wondered if anyone could advise on this product or have anything else to recommend him?
Thanks
Thanks

I had never heard of this, lhl45, so I googled it. I immediately saw the words 'as used by top athletes' and my heart sank. I presume your Dad is not a top athlete. I also presume that top athletes do not have much trouble with arthritis. I do have a friend whose husband did a lot of athletics and she said when he got together with his athletic mates all they ever spoke about was their - largely imagined - injuries.
I suspect these people are using arthrodisc in the hope of preventing injury. It may well do that. But I don't think it will repair damage done. I would be pleasantly surprised it if were to help your Dad. In my own humble, and very un-medically-qualified opinion, your Dad would be best sticking to paindullers and maybe - depending on his GP's advice - anti-inflammatories. I also believe a cod liver oil supplement can help with OA. It should at least do no harm and cost very little. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I'm in agreement with sticky and valval, don't waste the money. Many things are peddled as cures or preventatives but in truth they are neither. Those who swear by their copper bracelets or fancy capsules are those who like to think they have arthritis but I reckon they are confusing the general aches of aging with this disease. Still, it makes them happy and others wealthy . . . . . .
There are two forms of arthritis, OA (which is called the 'wear and tear' as an explanation of why it happens) and the ones like rheumatoid (which are immune-system based ones and very different beasts). It sounds as tho your dad is at the start of OA, so he needs to liaise with his GP about pain relief, anti-inflammatory meds and exercise. I wish him well and I hope he saves his money. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Ihl45
I am sorry but think this is likley to be not very effective. and use up a lot of your dad's money
There are lots of different types of arthritis (over 200 is says on this site). Your poor dad though....what to do to help?
I would go to the GP with him and see what he advises for keep him going for now. Prahmacists can be good for this kind of advice too.
If he can l imagine some form of exercise might be good like swimming???
Love
