Hi. I have my first appointment at the hospital in 2 and a half weeks..finally, after a long wait.

What I want to know is will he x-ray and scan at the appointment or will I have to go back again? It seems like I've been waiting my whole life.

I have done a full history of my pains and a diary of the past 2 months, which clearly states the pains I have every day.

This includes problems I have with tinnitus, hearing loss, headaches, eye problems, Raynaud's blah blah blah...

I can have pain and stiffness in all joints but currently they are mostly in my lower back, tailbone, spine, neck, feet, toes, heels and ankles.

I strongly suspect that I have spondylitis.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I can't remember my first visit it was so long ago.
When I go for my appointment with the, rhummy they send me to the xray department, for what ever xray is needed and bloods on the same day.
For any big xrays (ie) mri, or ct then that is a different day.

I wish I had the gift of clairvoyancy but alas . . . . . All I can say is that every rheumatologist is different in how they work. At my first appointment in Jan 2001 I was told 'You're not my problem, you're orthopaedics.' I hope your rheumatologist is better than that. DD

    Hi,
I was referred to a rheumy by the GP and he didnt do scans or x rays. Just diagnosed OA in spine and hips.
About 7 years later....not seen anyone from the hospital and the pain was getting worse....GP referred me to an Orthopaedic surgeon who sent me for an x ray there and then and I went back to his office and he said "you need to new hips"

    Hi
Yes I had x rays done, you take your list along and make sure they listen to you, mine didnt because he was running late, I was fuming with myself when I came out.
Wishing you good luck with it, and please let us know how you get on.
    Love

    Hi

Reasonable question. I believe a lot of them do do Xrays first visit so that they have a 'baseline'.

I had chest Xray at my initial consultation and others have hands and chests.

    Wont be long now

    Love

Hi Spondy, my first app was so long ago im not sure if xrays were done then or i was sent for them and called back. Anyhow its nowt to worry about. At least you are about to be seen.
Do take your pain map, diary and go through it. I took someone with me on my first visit as i was concerned i wouldnt be able to remember to tell all or his responses to question.

Hope all goes well and you get the help you need. Do let us know how things go.
