Hi, I`ve just joined the club, my question, I was advised by Doc. to get a glove, to provide compression for my hand arthritis, but no glove, instead he suggested a golf glove, but I bought a cyclists glove instead, the main reason being that the palm part is very well padded, making using the car gear stick a doddle. What I do`nt know is, do I wear the glove all the time, to prevent swelling, and provide warmth, or do I only use it when it is swollen and very painful.

Hello chummy - gosh your name reminds me of my late dad, he used to call people he didn't know 'Chummy' when he was relating tales of, for example, driving mishaps - 'Then chummy pulled out right in front of me and I slammed on the anchors!' (This is by no means a reflection of your driving skills which I am sure are excellent!) I digress.

Gloves can be very helpful but I reckon it's best to restrict the use otherwise you will become so used to the benefit there will cease to be a benefit. I found the same with knee supports - wonderful relief led to over-use and not such good relief. I am glad that the golf glove is helping but as frog says have a word with your GP for clarification. I wish you well. DD

    Hi Chummy
I am under the impression that you use then when needed, otherwise you wont feel the benefit, and you still need to exercise your hands
Oh and a warm welcome to the forum from me ..
    Love

    Hello Chummy
My OT supplied mine they are brilliant, they ease the pain on bad days, and have a strange cooling effect which is very soothing. They are therapuetic gloves by Isoton** the missing letters being er.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi, welcome!
I got the compression gloves from OT too-she suggests wearing them to control swelling so that joints don't deform so badly, but not all the time because own muscles need to do their work! They certainly help me-tend to use them when doing lots of writing and they really help.
