Hi, Im a 35 year old and I live in Italy. Ive had pains in both hands for about a year and just got my results from last weeks xray. They say

- osteoarthritic metacarpal phalangeal joints of the first ray bilaterally with sclerosis of the limiting joint and reduction of joint space width.

thats with google translator so it not totally clear of course. I cant see any doctors to discuss this with until next week because theyre all shut here. If anyone can explain it a little Id be greatful. I guess Im really upset beacuse its what I feared. I looked after my Gran for years who suffered terribly from arthritis so I know how the outcome can be.

Im young, I have a young son, my work is very manual.
Thanks

Take care lass and l hope one off those people will be able to come on later to help.

    Hi Moreaxe

I have no advice I just want to welcome you to the forum.

I am sorry you are left in limbo for the weekend but next week when you see a gp I am sure you will get a translation to the medical terms you have been given. Like frogmorton said ....they can do wonderful things nowadays to help arthritis so please try not to worry too much.

Keep in touch and take care

    Hi Moreaxe

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry that your xrays reveal arthritis. I do not really understand the diagnosis, not being at all medically minded and wonder what type of arthritis you are being diagnosed with.

You will obviously need to see a medic to discuss your options and medication. Difficult though it is with your mind obviously racing ahead with the "what ifs" and "buts", please do try not to panic, a few more days will not make much difference to the situation. Unfortunately we all have to play at this waiting game - waiting for tests to be done, getting results, referral, diagnosis, treatments/medication and what suits us as we are all different.

Please do keep in touch and if you wish you can phone the helplines (open Monday to Friday) for a chat or copy and paste your thread onto the helplines zone here and someone may well reply today.

Hi Moreaxe, I'm so sorry that you've been left in limbo like that, it's totally wrong and disgraceful. Like the others have said you should ring the help line they are amazing and can put your mind at ease and give you good advice I should know I have spoken to them myself when I felt scared and lost, and they where amazing really helpful. I hope you find the answers your looking for. And welcome to the forum, you will feel so relaxed here and you can join in ask questions or just rant if you want to, you will be made to feel welcome and feel like your in a big family.

Just to wish you all the best tomorrow at the gp's Stuart - do let us know how you go on. Yep, you have the right attitude, try to focus on other things for now as stress tends to aggravate symptoms and as I said a few days will not make much difference.

    Hi
Can't believe they haven't explained things to you, thats' not right. But hey, medication has moved on, and it may not be as bad as you think. I too have just been diagnosed, been on the meds for a month and im starting to feel much better. I know it's scary, especially as you have a little one to look after, but just take one step at a time. And don't Google, I've found that can be the worst thing to do, because you only focus on the negative!!
Good luck tomorrow, let us know how you get on. These people are fab, and always here to help and send hugs. You're not alone xx
