Different Meds for Bad OA Days?

Can/ Should I ask my doctor for stronger painkillers for the really bad days? Just for occasional use. Usually I can manage, but not always. Will he give me them? I am on the waiting list for the Pain Clinic, but it is very, very long.

Hi
You can always try asking him....I dont know what you are on but I have OA and could do with something as a standby for bad days as well.
I havent got very far with my GP about that. In fact she is going to take me of naproxen and put me on codeine instead....other tablet is paracetamol.
I've asked about a pain clinic and she has said she doesnt have much faith in them {or words like that} so I'm not even on the list for the pain clinic.
I'm no doc but what about asking your GP and if you get nowhere then go to the pharmist with a list of what you take and ask if there is anything you can buy over the counter that would help that isnt contra-indicated.
Things like ibroprufon....but if they have a list of your meds they might be able to suggest something.
