I've had a few MRIs in my time (was this the sort of scan you had today?) and never once was I told what was wrong with me: it was always a case of 'The doctor will be in touch if necessary.' Be cautious, please - the rheumatologist may confirm this for you on Thursday and he is the one to do so. Please let us know how you get on, I will be thinking of you. DD

    Hi Dreamdaisy

The scans i had were on different joints (Ultrasound) which all showed inflammation of joints and the bone starting to spike. The radiologist was really nice and pointed it all out to me. Still as you say I need to speak to my rheumatologist on Thursday for more information. Will let you know what he says.

Hi Sheila - sorry about the diagnosis but perhaps it is a relief to have confirmation at least? I see the rheumy on Thursday too but have less for him to go on having not been offered scans - they do ultrasound for internal organs, pregnancies etc here but not MRI or joint scans (I live on an island with cottage hospital only) - I don't think so anyway although others on here seem to have had confirmation from ultrasound where bloods and x-rays haven't revealed enough.

I too am thinking i have RA but have a feeling more tests will be going on before the rheumy makes his final diagnosis somehow - he was very cautious type. I do worry about this long wait - not just for my sanity but for my poor old hands which seem to be changing shape and hurting more daily?

Oh well best of luck for Thursday - the radiologist probably knows their stuff but best to keep as open mind as you can because rheumy is the expert as DD says.

    Hi Sheila,
I'm really pleased the scan went well. I always feel relieved when they 'find' something-then you know you're not losing it  I wish you well for Thursday.

Can I ask a wee question please? I was told yesterday that I've to get an ultrasound done on my feet and ankles. They're looking for inflammation. I take it that's what they could see in yours? What does the spike mean? I'm just curious as to what they will do at my appointment.
    Thanks,
    Magenta x

Thank you everyone for your support. Even though I had a deep down feeling about what I had it still a shock when someone actually says you have RA. So many questions wrote down for my appointment with Rheumatologist on Thursday.

Magenta, when they told me my joints were spiking its like extra bone growth/nodules growing on my bone joints which is causing the inflammation. I do hope your scan goes well for you (when is your scan) so I can jump in your pocket.

Good luck for tomorrow, I shall be thinking of you and I hope the appointment goes well - you will let us know what he says, won't you? Don't be surprised if he asks for further bloods, Xrays or even an MRI, rheumatologists have a habit of doing that! DD

    Hi Sheila

Glad you scan went well and that the radiographer was really nice.
Sorry though that they diagnosed you with Ra even though you had suspected it.

Good luck with tomorrows appointment with the rheumatologist, sounds as if you are organized with a list of questions.
    Take care
