Hi
Does anyone have advice or experiences that they can share in regards to having OA in the spine? I have it in the top of my spine, along with both hips and shoulders. I was only diagnosed after having symptoms in the last 6 months and so I am wondering which other joints are likely to join in anytime soon!
Is it common to have multiple joints affected? What treatment is there is OA in the spine becomes severe?...
Any advice would be appreciated (I am 43).
Thanks.

Hi Karend I have OA of the spine bottom end and in right knee. I am 63 and have had my diagnosis for nearly 6 and a half years now and just recently I have been having problems with the middle finger of my left hand which I am going to speak to the doctor about on thursday. Each person is different with regard to how quickley Arthur progresses as far as your question of treament in severe spine cases I dont know a lot about only that when 1st diagnosed my dr said surgery is poss but personally she didn't recommend it for me at that time. hope this has helped, welcome to the forum by the wayStay positive always👍xx0

Hi Karend, I'm 48 & a newbie to the forum too, they're a lovely welcoming bunch here as I'm sure you're finiding out .
I've Arthur at varying stages from my neck to my lumbar region. I guess it's a case of learning to avoid activities that cause pain to avoid aggravating your condition, and finding other ways to do what you want to do.
Other folks will be along shortly to help you out x0 -
Hi
Welcome
I'm 65 and have OA in my spine {mostly the lower} and both hips ankle {but that was due to an accident} and my neck.
You cant tell where it will go if it goes anywhere else.
Just learn all about it and find ways to cope.....you'll get plenty of tips on here about coping and how to do things without over exerting yourself.
Not that i always donthem that way

Hi Karend, Welcome to the forum! I have Osteo-porosis in both legs, lower spine and both hips. The top of my back is starting to feel as though it's got it there as well now, getting the same pain around there. I don't think there is a certain joint order they go in. I'm 38 and have to avoid doing alot of things like doing house work, cooking and all bending which annoys me! I find it's just a case of listening to your body.0

Yip Im another one...you must learn how to lift things properly...and know heavy lifting...exercise is important..to keep the back fron seizing up..and also exercises for the arms and thighs..you need to keep these strong to support you...people forget how important this is.
I do wish you well with it all xLove

Hi Karen, it's nice to meet you but I am sorry you have had to find us. We can't really tell you how things will pan out as everyone's arthritis is different: OK, the labels may be the same but we are all affected in differing ways, the degeneration occurs at different speeds, pain occurs at differing levels etc etc etc. What we are united by is the fact we know how difficult living with these conditions can be, how frustrating things can be and how tiring living an every-day life can become. We can help on those fronts, of that I am sure. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi
Sorry to hear about the arthritis in your spine. Yes, OA seems to get into other joints. It's in my fingers toes and other knee. I had a TKR a couple of years ago.
You're doing the right thing in asking others how they cope.
I think many of us have memory foam mattress toppers which seem to help cushion our joints. Anything that gives you comfort is a relief - especially as OA pain/stiffness becomes one's constant companion!
Regards
