Rheumy for OA???

After phoning AC advice line and them recommending seeing a physio, I asked my GP to refer me. He did so reluctantly as he thinks it might make me worse. I had my appointment with the physio yesterday and he was reluctant to do physio on me at the moment and is going to recommend I see a rheumatologist and he was suprised that my GP hadn't referred me to a specialist. Is it normal to see a rheumy when only OA has been diagnosed?

You would normally be under GP and/or Orthopaedics for OA Sandy. Rheumy is generally for inflammatory/RA.

That's what I thought Pink, but he defo said he was going to recommend me seeing a rheumy, so I will have to wait and see what my GP says.

    Hi
I have OA, and I have seen a rheumy, mind you it did take 2 years..dont forget that OA can be wrongly diagnosed so they will check if you have any other symptoms..ie skin rashes hair loss....and sometimes you can have more than one for of Arthur..so its worth seeing one.
    Good luck

Hair loss!!! Ooh bugger. The last few months when I've had a shower the plug hole is getting blocked with hair, I have to clean it out after every shower, is that normal hair loss or a bit extreme?

    Hi,

I've got OA and was sent to see a Rheumy almost straight away, I believe they sent me to have it confirmed as OA and not anything else, and it turns out I may also have a slight bit of inflammatory arthritis.

    Good luck

Wouldn't be suprised if I have a bit of that Scozzie, as I get a lot of foot pain but nothing showed up on MRI so I have to see an Ortho about it. I also have my sleep disturbed by severe elbow and wrist pain but don't think my GP knows what to make of this.

Hi, I have seen a rheumy but I haven't been diagnosed yet although my GP thinks OA.
However I also have confirmed OP and he deals with that as well.
My GP was just guessing....but now I've had bloods done at the hospital and I have another appoinment in February.
    Gp did send me.
Best of luck to you. May

Well I suppose it's a good thing that I'm getting to see ortho and rheumy, might end up with adequate pain relief if nothing else. I've had arther for over 20 years so it's about time I got to see someone other than my GP. Thanks everyone and hope you all are not in too much pain today. xxx

    Hi

I'm a newbie at posting although have visited often and find this forum helpful, comforting, funny, uplifting even on bad days.

I have OA in thumbs, wrists and knees and have seen a Rheumy despite blood tests showing no evidence of RA. He advised steroid joint injections which I got on Tuesday and must say they have helped.

    Take care
