My doc. phoned OT yesterday expaining I need assessed now,got a phone call from them this morning, can I come to centre for 10.45am this morning. Haven't got any transport says I,I can't walk so can't get bus and I can't afford a taxi as I'm on sick pay, If you can get me there I will come. Sorry we don't provide transport. We will put an appointment back for January then, will that help.
Well no it won't ,I need help NOW ,can't someone come out to my house ? Well I can see you need help now with different things but if you cant get to Ironstone centre to be assessed there's nothing we can do.
Grrrrrrrrrrr I just seem to be going round in circles and they wonder why people dont ask for help.I'm gonna forget it and I'll just struggle on and find my own way round things . Just so frustrated now

I have to say that I loved the title of your thread - it's fitting for a tiger!

I understand that it is frustrating, but I guess they are not able to get out on the spur of the moment which is understandable. Anyhoo, what is the point of assessing you in a centre when it's in the home you need help? Maybe it's time to contact Social Services, I did so a few years ago now and within a short space of time someone came round, had a butchers at me and the house and sorted some stuff out. It took a little while from beginning to end but I ended up with a toilet frame/raised seat combo and two new handrails for the stairs.

As time as worn on (and I have worn out) I get my own stuff simply because I cannot be bothered to get involved in the systems and red tape but I do realise I am fortunate in that I am in the position to be able to do that. I hope you are still resting that knee, it's all still a relatively fresh thing for you and I hope you are as OK as you can be. DD

    Hi,
It doesn't make sense.....how can they see what you need if they don't come out to your home.
Having said that if your doc has said it's urgent they can't just drop everything and visit. This should of been sorted beforehand.
I would contact social services or the hospital....they should have a bit more clout.(not sure if thats a northern saying)
Also...remember they could of been on strike yesterday so will be playing catchup. May

It's best if you talk to your G.P again and see if they can explain your position to the O.T's and see if he can get them to come to your home to assess you in your own surroundings. Or see if the G.P can arrange for you to use the hospital transport for hospital visits as you can't get about yourself. That's what I did and now thanks to my G.P I get to hospital appointments by hospital transport. Hope that helps in some way.

Social services here have their own OT department who would come to your house to assess for things in the home????

can you try phoning them to see if you can self-refer??

That's what l would try next.

I can really tell reading between the lines that this has upset you and you are really very uspet with it all

    Love

That's awful babytiger I would get in touch with your hospital consultant (via his secretary) and tell him what has happened and that your condition has got worse and put the ball in his court and see if he can get the O.T to go and do the assessment at your home. I do hope you can sort this out and get your pain sorted out as well. It's truely discusting the position you have been left in.

I am so sorry to hear that the knee is troubling you, I really hope you haven't been overdoing things in the past few weeks. Hips surgery is relatively straightforward as the joint itself is a ball-and-socket: knee joints are far more complicated, the phsyio is crucial as is the resting for healing and it is so important not to put the new joint under any undue stress. Did they not give you any advice at all post-surgery about the dos and don'ts? I think you should contact the surgeon's secretary first thing on Monday, he may well want to have a look at you. Rest, take the pain relief, and above all don't do those stairs! Look after yourself babytiger, please, take care. DD
