Hi everyone just thought I would let you all know how caring my GP is. She just rang and spoke to me about my 1st dose of Methotrexate that I took last Thursday. I explained that my tummy was very upset for 3 days. Guess what. she has prescribed me Zofran to take during this time. Have I a good GP or what

Whats your GP like???

Love n hugs
SheilaD xx

It's good to hear your GP is being good for you. One word of warning, those anti sickness tablets can make you constipated if you take them every day.
My GP is good as well, very thorough and at least I can talk to him.
I take metoclopramide to help with the methotrexate side effect of nausea and it works quite well.
    Best of luck. Rita.

    Hi Sheila,
Like you I am so fortunate to have a fantastic gp, who also happens to be female! It really does help knowing there is someone who cares enough to phone & see how you are. With mine I feel like shes more of a friend & I can talk so openly, unlike my rheumatologist.... but thats another matter!!!

Good luck on the mtx, when I first started & felt icky I was advised to split the dose throuhout the day rather than take them all at once & have have no problems since.

Isn't it fantastic when you have a great G.P? I just posted this on my other forum but after seeing this, thought I'd share with you guys too!

Had phone appointment with my favourite G.P. (He went away and now he's back for good =o)) ) Wanted a word about the tramadol. Gave me good and sensible advice about cutting down and instead of just saying, "anything else? Ok bye bye." He said he was sorry he's been away so long and did I mind telling him what had been going on for me and asking how I felt about everything, not just physically but emotionally. We chatted about everything re. my surgery which he was genuinely interested in. He then said, "Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you're worried about anything, and don't wait for an appointment. I'll see you whenever cos I know you're genuine." What a sweetheart and I definitely won't take him for granted. He's a keeper!!

Aww that's really lovely to hear about your GP, restores some faith in the medical world and humanity! That's twice I've heard about thoughtful GPs in two days, a friend of mine took their little girl last week with stiff neck who was referred to hospital to be checked over and she was fine incidentally, just a pulled muscle but the GP rang yesterday to check she was OK, bless!!

I have a great G.P we always have a phone consultation weekly and she likes to see me in surgery monthly only if I feel upto going in to see her. She is always willing to come to see me at my home if I need her to. She is a excellent G.P I'm lucky to have her.

Yes you have a fanstastic GP!
Its good to hear they are still around.
Mine has been kind enough to call me a couple of times too when I have been worried about something.
I'll be sending her a card this year too just to add my thanks & appreciation.

My GP is very good too. She is always willing to talk and refers me if needed. I can phone her and talk too, if I'm worried or need advice. Its what everyone should have really, but a lot of docs don't seem to see the patients point of view and worries.
I'm glad your GP sounds lovely! x:-? Love Suexx

My GP is great for phoning me back - he also phoned me after my rheumy apt last week to see how it had gone and he does listen but also likes to take his lead from me to go off on some interesting tangents - like a stream of consciousness! Mostly I don't mind this because I'm interested in the science of it all. He is good for me because we can speak honestly about drugs and most physical matters but I would feel awkward talking to him about anything emotional if I was in a state re my RA or grieving for a lost loved one for example. I went to see him a few years ago after my mum died suddenly in order to get some sleeping tablets and and he was okay but just not very sympathetic - just shrugged a bit and said he'd rather I tried other stuff first.

I used to be fine going to him about woman's stuff but then he made my friend feel miserable shortly after she had lost her husband to cancer when he suggested quite shockingly that she was coming on to him - the poor thing was mortified as it's the last thing she would have done and she only asked him an innocent question about the weather and whether he was going on holiday! I almost boycotted him after that because I felt so indignant on her behalf but he has been very good to me and I do trust him on all things medical.

There is also a wonderful woman doctor in our practice but she only works part time and getting an appointment with her is like gold dust so I stick to the man for all things to do with RA now. Mat

My GP is great too. When I was first diagnosed she rang me at home with all the blood results, then she came into my place of work the next day to check I was ok after getting my diagnosis. She still calls in to see me at work whenever she's passing my office (I work in the hospital) and will always ask to see me at least once a month to update on all my blood results and just check everything is ok.

You're right, it makes so much difference. Before getting my diagnosis I saw a locum GP who actually made me cry! I always try and see the same GP now.

    Wow Sheila!!!

    That's fabulous care

l am so pleased for you.

I 'followed' my GP from his locum position at my former practise to his current permanent post (at his suggestion) and he is very interested in arthritis

    Love
