The Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, has just spent £37,000 of our money having his portrait painted and having a coat of arms drawn up
........And then they tell us that we must all be prepared to make sacrifices and tighten our belts
I could have painted his portrait at a fraction of the price :!:

Anyway, it made me think what I would have on my coat of arms/ family crest if I had one.

I would have my beautiful cat, Tommy Tucker.

I would have some paint brushes and paints to represent my interest in art.

I would have a picture of some ballet shoes because I love ballet.

I would have a picture of twins because I'm a mother of twins.

I would also have 3 little angels to represent my 3 grand-daughters.

My motto would be Amor vincit omnia ( Love conquers all )

What would you put on your coat of arms :?:

We have a family crest

The Shield is: Sable, a falcon volent, seizing a mallard argent.
Translation: The falcon signifies one who is eager in the Pursuit of his Objective and symbolizes a Noble and Strong Spirit in Enterprises of Honour. Sable (black) denotes Constancy and represents the planet Saturn.
The Crest is: A wolf salient gules.
The Mottoes are: "Christo duce vincamus." - "With Chirst I will conquer", and "Propria virtute audax" - "Daring in the cause of virtue".

Honest, its an old Irish name I believe everyone has a family cresr

Yes, you're probably right, but what would you put on a crest to represent yourself if you were to design a new one?

I'd put a picture of my late neice on it. She died aged just after her 20th birthday of a rare ovarian cancer. Her daughter was 10 months old when this happened.
I'd also put a pink ribbon on it for everyone affected by breast cancer.
An animal picture to represent that as a family we're animal lovers, a walking stick (a large number of us have OA so need them), and a, image of a doctor in the hope that a cure is eventually found for cancers and arthritis.

    hi

the butterfly is ....the beauty of freedom, the candle is ....hope, the bulldog is ....strength, the yellow ribbon is ....for those who are absent, and the circle of hands is.....a close family unit.

That's so sad about your niece, Grace. I've been taking part in a research project about ovarian cancer screening during the past 6 years in the hopes that more can be done in the future to catch the disease earlier. Two of my friends have died from this in the past couple of years, so I know what a silent killer it can be if not caught early.

Thanks Val, I was having a bit of a moment.

Grace, your choices are wonderful and your loss is tangible, very moving.

I will have a gilt medicine trolly to help as much as I can

My old SRN badge, that was stolen from my locker at the hospital (I was devastated, we were the last group of nurses ever to receive the old badge, with the angels on). The badge to say how I chose to help make a difference to my patients lives, while in my care.
A candle, I think of them as a direct link to another place, concentrating the mind.
    Finally a golden malteser.

A golden malteser - wow, what a fantastic image. I am so sorry your badge was stolen, there are some low-lifes in this world of ours, aren't there? Any thief who is nabbed should have something they treasure removed from their possession, that might learn them a thing or two.

I've been thinking about a crest etc for Mr DD et moi. It would involve books, spectacles, pints, two black labradors (his dream), one cream golden retriever (my dream) and our wedding rings. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Well for our family crest/coat of arms we would have to have bubba on it and a cruise ship for our holidays and west brom emblem because the whole White family support them! I think that's enough on it! And I think my motto on it will be 'what goes around comes around' that's my favorite saying!! x;)
