I bought me some new wheels and tonight will be the first run of any great length. Yup, I got a rollator and I shall shortly be trundling down to t'curry house ably assisted by Daisy Mark 2. (Daisy Mark 1 also has four wheels but comes with an in-built motor. For Mark 2 I am that motor.) Gulp. Should I smash a bottle of champers over her frame or just swig it? Yup, that's what I thought - that's a no-brainer! Wish me luck. DD

Hi DD x
Wow, definitely champagne and drink it! I love champagne. x:-D Aw, have a great night out, DD - you deserve it. You will be whizzing back, with the trustworthy Daisy Mark II, leaving Mr. DD behind.
I love the title of your thread.

Hi DD,
Wondered what was coming when I saw the title.....
Have a good night and don't forget L plates.
Are you allowed to drink in charge of these....oh drink it...if you must christen Daisy 11 with cheap plonk not champagne. May0 -
Glad you're enjoying the new mode of transport ; quick warning though , you might find a few new aches while getting used to propelling it as it's a different form of travel . Persevere , it'll pass . Jillyb0

Thank you all for your encouragement, because I am throughly bewildered. I made it there - and back - without a single pause for rest. That's a first for more years than I care to remember so what I must be wary of is not going too far, too fast. Daisy Mk2 is noisy but I care not, it's a case of have ability, will trundle. Thank you for the timely warning Jillyb1, the shoulders are aching but in a slightly different way to usual, I need to do this a little at a time, yes? Right, now I'll hit the sofa and bore Mr DD with the recording of Strictly. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi DD
Congratulations.....dont think you are allowed to be drunk in charge of it
I have vaguely thought about one. You know I have a scooter. I keep thinking could I do with one of those and get more exercise.
I dont need the scooter all the time so can walk unaided but not for very long outside.....Inside its different, probably because its a stop start thing....not a constant walk.
You were getting exercise anyway with the crutches....but the times I use the scooter I think I could maybe use a walker.
Enjoy it

Hello DD,
Good to hear you've got some new wheels and that your first trip out was a good one. I'm seriously considering getting one of these as I find it harder and harder to walk for too long. I hope you continue to enjoy using it and that it makes life easier for you.

I wholeheartedly recommend having one. The crutches are fine but I did not realise until I tried one of these how much effort crutches take, this in comparison is a doddle. It will be there for the more adventurous days (for example Mr DD and me recently went to Oxford for a short break, it would have been an absolute boon there) and it's here in reserve for the harder days. If I take it into town well, gone are the days where I could not queue to pay for summat - oh the bargains I have had to leave behind in M&S! - I now have my own seat! I am now wishing I had gone for a slightly more expensive model (in case that would be quieter) but never mind: this is a good entry-level one, it's light enough for me to lift easily in and out of the car and that is important. It needs some tweaking, I want one of those clips that snap round the frame but can also hold a stick, and I may well buy a proper old-fashioned bicycle lamp for night-time illumination: street lamps are not a feature in the depths of the North Norfolk countryside we love so much.
Walking without a pit-stop or two - who'd a thunk it? DD

Hi DD
Just thought
Are you going to decorate this with little lights for Christmas the way you do with your crutches????
Love
Hileena0 -
oh dd
I am so very pleased that the rollator is so useful. And well done for walking as well as you did.
Lights, and high vis vest being sent in post.

I've got a lovely picture in my mind of you whizzing around with your new wheels, DD. Has it got a horn to warn everyone to get out of the way x:?: x0
-
Alas no, Joan, not yet! It will be kitted out in due course with some sort of warning device and yes, it's the time of year where battery-operated fairy lights could be applied - once I've remembered where the dickens I've put 'em!
It's now known as the Clatterator. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
DD,
Been thinking about one of these.....especially today as I called in m&s on the way from hospital and I have a stick I use in my left hand, fighting with that and shopping which I have to put on my right wrist, getting money out to pay by which time I was exhausted.
Is yours a tri or quad and which would you think is the easiest and safer.
Not bothered about the noise.....May
PS If it makes that much everybody will here you coming anyway.0 -
I opted for a four wheeler as it comes with a seat and as I need a little sit-down every few minutes when using the crutches I thought that sensible. I empathise with the shopping problems as I have been battling for years with two crutches and yes, carrying stuff does become awkward. I tried a backpack but with the weight and the effort involved in walking I would become so hot and drippy that, well, it wasn't worth it. I can only advise you to get out there and try as many as you can until you find the one that suits. Mine is a cheap and cheerful version but I thought that sensible in case it did not work out as well as I hoped. It is still early days for me but I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks DD, Will go into town and try....see if I manage better.
Hope it works out ok for you.
A backpack was never an option for me because of OP vertabrae.Yes seat is ideal as I just have to keep stopping...took me forever and I didn't buy a lot.
