I agree Julie, I think they are dangerous. I'm not going to get another one. Back to the hot water bottle. Thing is, it's quite hard to balance a hottie over your ankles!0

Microwave radiation penetrates down to a depth of 1cm or 10mm max, so you end up with most of the radio wave energy being deposited at this point in the object your heating, the heat then transmits itself through the rest of the medium by infrared radiation this then spread slowly though the item heating it up. this is why it is always a good idea to stop heating and stir food on a regular bassis. If you leave it in getting hotter and hotter it will burn, you can't leave it to long as the bag also contains little water so heat transmission via secondary convection ie infrared radiation will be reduced so localised heating will be faster than say soup or baked beans so again will burn quicker.
All you have to do for you wheat bag is put a label on the door reminding you how long you need to heat it before you stop set the microwave to this and off you go, , once you hear the ping take it out shake it put it back and off you go again, you will notice that you will only need to do so many cycles before it's hot, so count the number of times you did it and also put this on the door, as the Meerkat says, simples!.0 -
Hi,
They do smell awful.....dont they.I've done that before yuckk!!
You said it was hard to balance one on your ankles.....What position are you in? In bed? or what? Have you tried the snake shape type of hotties....bit like a draught excluder only not as long
If you have your feet up would that not drape over them?
I use that shape for my neck.
Love

hileena, I might it was hard to drape a hot water bottle over my ankles! Sorry, should have said. I prefer them anyway as they stay hotter longer.
