Up all night with severe knee pain, nothing would ease it

Went to work as usual this morning only to be broad sided by an idiot, the damage to my poor car is unbelieveable.

Went for my 1st lot of blood tests since starting on MXT 2 weeks ago, 7 needles later and still no blood. Got to go back on Monday and they going to try again.

What happens if they can't get any again??? As i understand I have to have regular blood tests if I am on MXT.

Also just recieved an appt to see Nurse specialist on 5th January (1st Appt) Trouble is I will have run out of MXT by then. Will my GP give me a script for it?

Sorry seems to be all doom and gloom today.

Love n hugs

    Sheila,
can't help with the drugs query as I have OA and not RA. When you go for the bloods next week hopefully you'll see someone else who's better at their job.

However, I wanted to check you're okay after your accident and that you didn't get hurt? I hope your car is repairable and that it's done quickly for you.

    Have a better day tomorrow.
    Grace.

Hoping I do have a better day tomorrow as its my day off so will spend it chilling out I think.

Oh dear not a great day. I was only thinking that this time of year seems to bring out the worst drivers after I was cut up TWICE on the way to work and then a lady indicated but didn't look before crossing into my car, thankfully she pulled away sharply after a blast of my horn

If its MTX tablets your GP should be able to prescribe them but you will usually only get a months supply at a time and they will only give the script to you if they know your monitoring is alright.... Might be a bit of a faff but they usually get it sorted out in the end. Make sure they also supply Folic Acid as you must take these whilst on MTX.

I'm sure the bloods was just a rubbish go... but to make sure its better next time try to be warm and well hydrated as this helps.

Sometimes amazingly the people who do this all the time are absolutely crap at it.... I have great veins and almost see through skin but one nurse I dread if she picks up my monitoring book as I'm guarenteed big bruises on both arms as shes awful , the other girl, you can't even tell shes taken it except for the plaster

    Hi
Speak to your Gp a telephone app will do just to check they have the letter from the rheumy saying you are on MTX and the dose then they can prescribe it for you if you are on tablets.
If you are on Injection or your GP hasnt yet been informed then you need to ring the rheumy clinic/rheumy nurse/rheumy secretary and explain you will run out before the next appointment and they will sort it out for you. ( Injections are delivered to your home but it takes time to set that upso they prescribe in clinic for a while especially if youre new)
and as clare says dont forget the folic acid.

Hope youre feeling better from youre accident. and as for the bloods sometimes its the nurse doing it or just a bad day there are ways and means of getting blood so dont worry too much.
    Hope this helps

    Good luck

    Theresa

I would ring nurse specialist (hreumy nurse?) and ask her what to do as you will have run out.

Getting blood at the docs can often be difficult so some get you to go to the phlebotomist - they are so good at it because it's all they do x;)

    Good luck

    Love

Ps hope you are ok after the shock

    hi Sheila,

hope the knee was kinder to you last night? its no joke pain and not sleeping cus of it at all.

the blood thing... thy can't get it out of me at all.... the solution was either the rumo nurse (they are well used to difficult veins and don't mind doing it for you) r the gp... thankfully 2 gp's in my practice are happy to do it though one may have changed her mind

as Chrissy said staying warm and drinking lots can help as well... i go in now straight from a hot shower and dressed in a thick padded shirt and well as a coat..... anything to get a vein there.

Chrissy is also right about some are better than others.... hence me now being done by the rumo nurse or gp cus my veins are starting to object to all the stabbings.

i would ring the rumo nurse if they are near by and see if they will do it.

the mtx, once they get the letter they should just give your a script.... i hope thats sorted soon and it works for you as well. Cris x

Thank you all for your replies, I am dreading going back on Monday for the Nurse to try again. When you have had 7 attempts to get blood out of you by 2 nurses its very off putting and was very painful. I have never been bothered about blood tests before but this is worrying me like mad. Especially if I have to have regular blood tests because of the meds.
Could it be the medication I am taking, as normally show my veins a syringe and it normally jumps in

If the blood test was after the broadsiding then maybe shock was playing a part? I am not a doc/medico and don't know all of the effects of shock but I woulda kinda thought that your blood would be shoved to where you need it and that would not necessarily be the crook of your elbow. I always go to the hospital for bloods because it's nearer than the docs and, as frog said, that is all the phlebos do. Our system here means it's an open house, you can wander in clutching your forms whenever you want, then the results are sent to the GP and the rheumatology department. I have a stash of blood forms and even keep a set in the car so I can pop in should the whim strike. How sad am I? Don't answer!

I hope you are feeling as OK as you can today but the main thing is that you were not hurt: a lump of metal and electrics can be easily sorted but that may not necessarily apply to the biological lump behind the wheel. DD

    Hi Sheila,
Oh im so sorry to hear about the car and then the blood test trouble after x:-? I think DD is right as the shock really wont have helped you with a blood test. On Monday before you go in, can you take a drink with you (warm or cold) and take a good couple of sips, i dont know why but it always helps me. Also, explain to the nurse or whoever is taking the blood that you are anxious due to what happened before, they will be able to help if you if you tell them, i know its hard, ive been on 2 weekly blood tests now since May 2010, its wearing, BUT i cannot begin to tell you how grateful i am that i do have them frequently, twice my rheumy has rung me to tell me my white blood count was very low and to stop injecting the methotrexate and enbrel. x:neutral: i'll be thinking of you Monday and sending positive healing thoughts your way. Hugs (((((()))))) Xxx
