Painful leg cramp

Hiya,
I remember somebody else having this recently. I woke this morning at 2am with excrutiating leg cramp. It was so painful, nearly crying with the pain. All my toes were pulled forward and I had to straighten them and massage the calf muscle. My toes kept pulling up. Was like this for about 20mins. Is this common with arthritis or fibro?
Thanks,
Magenta x

Hi Magenta
i was in florida in september and have had a knee replaced 4 years ago, we had a really relaxing holiday no overwaking or overdoing anything it was very relaxed holiday, but 1 morning at 6am i awoke with agonising pain in my left calf, it came from out of the blue and woke me almost screaming!, hubby Steve got out of bed and run round to my side and massaged it as i was crying, it was such an awful pain, when we came home 10 days later i woke again with extreme pain same calf but not cramp this was something different and i had forgotten the cramp spell, i could barely walk so i got Steve to take me to the hospital and they scanned my calf for DVT (i lost my mum through DVT and it scares the daylights out of me) luckily nothing was wrong, just needed to rest it, Steve has had several attacks of cramp in the night when hes jumped out of bed freaking me out in agony, hes diabetic so we watch him closely dont know why we/he gets it..love and hugs0 -
hi Magenta ouch i know how that feels i used to get a lot of cramp , even when just moving the legs or toes even when walking , never did get to the bottom of it , but i am still aware of certain movements that might trigger it , drinking tonic water before bed is supposed to help i think its the quinine in it xI know i am a lady ,all life is a journey xx MAY xx0

Hi Liesa and Bertyboy,
I've had cramps in my leg before but nothing like this. I don't want it again, it was so painful.
Good excuse to drink a gin and tonic before bed
Thanks,

Magenta,
I have suffered with cramp for years usually in hands and feer but over the last year i have been getting it in my thigh (the same thigh i have bursistis in) which is really bad I have never got to the bottom of why but someone did suggest to drink a small tin of tonic when you first get the cramp and by the time you have finsihed the tin it will have gone well i was extremely sceptical about this but thought anything was worth a try and to my total amazement it worked i thought perhaps it was a flewke but i tried it again the next time and it worked again so i have been doing that now when i get bad cramp, i still doesn't help to not get it but if i can get rid of it quicker then i can live with it a bit better.

I go for the tonic water idea too , apparently it's the quinine that does the trick . I drink a glass of tonic last thing at night and ( maybe in my head ) it helps . Jillyb0

Thanks,
I wonder why you get it in the first place,

hi Eileen,
get cramp all the time i afraid. tis worth mentioning but in my case they say that the lack of circulation and the nerve damage and swelling problems in the back are the culprits but yours might be different.
they did have me on tablet quinnin for some time but i was never sure it helped.
hope yours is a passing thing and soon stops. ((((( ))))) Cris xx0
