Does anyone know if I would be able to borrow or hire a wheelchair so as Pete can take me somewhere apart from Asda, would love to go see Lassies at work and use my vouchers to get xmas shopping at Wilkos but of course at moment ,theres no way I could walk from carpark into shop ,
Asda being a nice shop as it is ,would be nice to see somewhere different .
OR does this come under the same as my seat for shower which is being reviewed middle jan.

Thanks again, see told you silly question (I,m full of them  )

    Eileen,

It's not a silly question and you're fully entitled to ask it.

I'm not a wheelchair user (yet!) but I know that here in Kent the Red Cross will hire wheelchairs out. Try contacting them. Alternatively, try your local mobility shop/s - they might also hire these out. Have a "test drive" before your take your wheels away though. Have you got a Shopmobility in your town? Might be worth asking Adult Social Services where you can hire one as well.

When you get your wheels home don't forget to bling them up in some way to personalise them.

Good luck. No wheelies now or you'll get fined for speeding.

    Grace.

    Hi Eileen

Many of the shopping centres hire out both wheelchairs and scooters.
Some mobility shops allow you to borrow one for a few days for a hire rate.

I ended up buying my own chair and scooter as the hired ones always felt too large.

Hope you find a soution and enjoy a good shopping trip out.
    Love Juliepf x

As far as I know the Red Cross are not "picky" as to whom they hire out their wheelchairs and other aids to. x;)

If Age Concern do hire out, you may need to meet the requirement of being 50 years old minimum, so that may well be out for you. x:-)

You could try looking for a second hand wheelchair I got mine from e**y and was cheap and lovely, a real bargain. I wanted my own as we were going on holiday. It is used on bad days and holidays etc, just a thought. Notice boards and local papers often have them as well.

Otherwise most towns have shopmobility where you can hire a wheelchair for the day.

    Enjoy your shop!!!

    Hi Babytiger,
I use a wheelchair, ive called her Betsy, and im sad to say she has been spray painted bright neon pink and had high vis tape stuck all over her x:-o thanks to my eldest son and friends x:lol:
When i first was told by my rheumy that i needed to get a wheelchair she referred me to an Occupational therapist, who arranged for me to trial one to see how i got on. My OT ordered it through a company who work in conjunction with my local council, i paid a £40 deposit refundable on return.
After 4 weeks i bought a wheelchair through them and im SO glad i did, walking is not possible at the moment, so im in Betsy all day around my home and outdoors, it takes a little while to get used to, but im so glad ive got Betsy, even if you see me a mile off with my 'bling' wheelchair :lol:
Best of luck Babytiger, if you need anymore info feel free to pm me. x:-D

In my area you can hire them also from the red cross - number can be googled.

Of course you can also hire a motability scooter to hit the town proper lass with it being Christmas you must want to get out proper.

I fully expect to hear tales of your exploits out and about soon x;)

    Love

Why not ask your GP to reffer you for one?
I have one (but I hate using it). I use it if we have to go a long distance like an airport. I've never managed to 'take' to it. Daft really as most of the time I get exhausted. I always feel a fake?
I was told you need to be assesed for a wheelchair as its not a one size fits all?

My best advice would look to see if you have a shop mobility and if not contact your town hall (information) and they should beable to point you in the right direction. Hope you get one so you can get out.
P.S Sorry just had another thought don't know if you have one for your area we (here in Redditch) have a freecycle type thing where people give things the don't want away on the internet, you might get lucky and find one on there! Really hope you get lucky and find one.
