hi hope u all dont mind me posting i am new here :)

well i am 21 years old. i have been suffering with my joints since i was about 14 or 15. i finally plucked up the courage to go to the doctors a few weeks ago (been putting it off and ignoring it and hoping it would go away) well they sent me for blood tests for quite a few different things, my vitamin d is low and some others came back abnormal to do with inflamation so the doctor called me in "asap" for an appointment i was put on steroids for 5 days they are called prednisone 5mg i was told to take 6 of them a day. the doctor said if the prednisone work then it means ive got some sort of artheritis, is this right??[/color] well they worked wonders was like a miracle drug i was less stiff could walk alot faster slept alot better hardly any pain at all had no problems with day to day activities that were hard to do before. since i came off them the pain and stiffness and clicking and locking ect is coming back. i have my first reumatology appointment tomorow and i am wondering what to expect? what will they do during my appointment?
thanks :) laura x

    Hi Laura

Sorry to hear of the bad time you have been having. I cant tell you what will happen at your appointment but i'd presume it will be a discussion and possibly getting some tests booked to see what arthritis it is. Try not to be to anxious about it, they are likely to discuss medication with you too. I know it is all very scary but you will be fine. Have you got someone going with you to your appointment?

I'm here if you want to talk anymore, you may find my blog useful too which you can find the link to on my profile.

    Good luck x

It indicates that it could be arthritis yes, but it could be anything. Try and go as perpared as you can to your appointment. Write down your history as you can remember even if you dont think it would be related. This will help you to give a quick overview at your appointment and will ensure you dont miss anything. I always write my questions down to so that I can ensure everything is discussed x

    Hi

I had my 1st rheumy appt about 3 1/2 weeks ago.I dont know what will happen at your appt but I can tell you what took pl,ace at mine. I had the joints examined, history taken, bloods, x ray of chest, hands and feet I also had a lung function test last week..Everyone was really helpful and kind and I was put on arcoxia and methotraxate and given a steroid jab as well.As I say this was my experience but it was a really positive one. Good luck and try not to worry.

    Hi Laura,
Welcome to the forum.Nobody can really tell you what will happen...but like has been said I would make sure you have some notes as to what has been happening....its so easy to forget questions you want to ask.

I wish you a good appointment and don't forget to come back and let us know how it goes. May

Good luck for today, I hope they are able to tell you something about what is going on. Arthritis comes in many guises and it can take time to decide which one is happening but the sooner you are on some treatment the better as that should help to slow its progress and thus reduce the risk of joint damage. Prednisalone is a great help but it is only a 'temporary' fix, it is anything but a cure. Do let us know how you get on, OK? Take care. DD

Thank you for all your replies.

I went for my appointment yesterday, she asked loads of questions and examined me. Then told me I have got Joint Hypermobility Syndrome and "Ligaments like elastic bands" they are all floppy. Ive got to go for more blood tests and an ultrasound and xrays of all my joints to see if ive got any arthritis.
