Defective knee joint.

Hi, Back again after more surgery.
Just heard from surgeon via solicitor, it has taken six months to get a respose about my broken joint and it appears that here have been more defective joints than mine. There has been a recall from the manufacturere and the new ones are to be made stronger. A "recall", does that mean that anyone with a knee made before 2008 will have it ripped out and a new one fitted or will they have to live in fear of the knee breaking?
Does anyone know of other examples of knee replacements made by the German firm Implantcast being defective? We are trying to build up a picture of how extensive the problem is.
Best wishes, Alun

Oh grampyal, what a thing to happen, I am so sorry. I know there was something about defective hip replacements on the helpline thread a while ago but this is a new on me. Knee joints are complicated things au naturel, never mind au man-made. Have you had another one put in or this one tinkered with? Either way, I hope you are on the mend. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi,
This was a REVISION. Posh name for a new knee with long spikes that go up into the bone. This is far better than the old one, still get a bit of pain but I think that is to be expected. Also not hard to be better than a replacement that broke very soon after being put in. The problem is that it took three years for the hospital to accept that there was a fault, then the usual messing about while they lost test results etc. Again I have used up one of my allowance as each replacement has a smaller chance of success than the one before. Given I'm 65 now this one has to last an awful long time.
