hello ... i've been new here and i'd like to ask if anyone has his knees or wrist dislocating ?... i don't know if i'm imagining or is it true but i am feeling that both of my knees' shape isn't as before , and the same thing for my wrist which is really making me concerned.. i have an app with my doc on jan 9 but it has been about 8 months since i visited her ( because i was kind of depressed since my last visit..)
thanks for this great forum...it's really helpful and cheerful

Hi Serah24 and welcome to the forum. I've no medical qualifications at all, just many years of arthritis, but I'd be very surprised if your wrists and knees were dislocating as dislocation is agony and can feel every bit as bad as a break.

You don't say what type of arthritis you have but inflammation and swelling will make them look a different shape. Are you taking any meds for it? What did your doc say last time? Is it your GP or rheumatologist? Sorry for all the questions.

thanks for your answer  i know i might not be clear in my post maybe because it's my first one  anyway my RA type is JRA ( i feel it's the worst one  ) and it's affecting most of my joints but recently the worst ones are my wrists, knees, and ankles  ...i had a long road with meds , i almost tried everything  ( methotrexate, remicade, humira, arava, and lately actemra and sure cortisone) and none of them had any effect ,except for ARAVA which was like magic for about 2 years until i had a serious liver failure so i had to stop it ...so now am only on cortisone with a low dose of 5mg/day( actually since i had RA when i was 10 years old i started the cortisone till now) and also i am taking some supplements like , calcium, omega 3 and vitamin D with pain killers when needed...my rheumatologist told me last time that she's waiting any new meds to discuss trying it (that's all she had  )...long story i know
anyway as i said that's my biggest concern , i really don't want to see my joints deformed , i can stand the whole pain stuff but not this :!:
btw with all this record i want to mention i am only 24 years old

    Hi Serah
It is a possibility that you are experiencing subluxation of these joints rather than dislocation. Ask your GP/physio to do the Beighton test on you as you may have hypermobility in these joints. This is nothing to worry about usually if it is only in one or two of them as you state. As the previous poster said, dislocation is extremely painful so it's unlikely to be that.

Yes, you’ve certainly had a long line of meds, Serah24, haven’t you? If the Arava helped, and you see your rheumatologist again in early January, maybe – just maybe – you might be able to go back on it now if your liver’s back to normal. Unfortunately, only the rheumatologist can prescribe these meds so it would be no use asking your GP. And I doubt you could get an earlier appointment given Christmas holidays.

What your GP can do is change your pain meds. Exercises may help. You could try buying wrist, knee and ankle supports from a disability shop or a good pharmacy to help short term though it’s not a good idea to wear them for long periods.

I’ve no idea which form of arthritis is worst. I guess it’s whichever is hurting at the time. Mine is officially Still’s Disease as I was diagnosed at 15 (and probably had ‘rheumatic fever’ at 11) but I’ve had none of the additional complications though OA set in long ago. I’ve been lucky in that meds have usually worked for me. I hope you can find one that works for you, too, and that you can tolerate.

    Hi Serah

in your position l would take advice sooner rather than later....more for your own peice of mind than anything else.

Maybe you could start with a call to either GP or rheumy nurse.

I think Penfactor might have something there....there is hope it is not dislocation l really hope so for you Serah.

    Love and hugs

thanks all for your support and care .. i really appreciate it and i'll put in mind all of your thoughts..in fact i've been thinking seriously about retaking Arava( sure after discussing this option with my rheumatologist) ...but i am still scared
@ stickywicket : actually you're right it's very hard to take a soon appointment because of the holidays that's why mine is in jan 9 :( ...and i want to mention that when i was little, in the early stage of disease ,my rheumatologist said it was Still's disease , however since my rheumatologist changed ( my first doc traveled to france so he gave my file to another one who's as good as him, at least thats what he said),anyway my new doc says it's Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis , i don't know actually i have few knowledge concerning the difference between them..so what meds have you taken or still are taking? hope you better and better days...

I think JRA and JIA are just newer names for Still's Disease but don't take my word for that. Nowadays I just tell people I have RA as it sounds a bit ridiculous saying you have the juvenile form when you're 65. Methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquine do a good job for me and before them Penicillamine did it for many years. Before that it was gold injections and before that a bit of a nightmare. I hope you can get enough pain relief to help you through until Jan 9th.
