Hi
Since I was diagnosed in November this year with RA, I feel as though I have been left in mid air. I was told at that appt I would see the Nurse specialist in 4 weeks time and be sent an appt to see the consultant in 3 months, I was given 4 weeks supply of Meth and Folic Acid to take in the meantime. I have just recieved a letter from the nurse to see her on 5th January which is almost 8 weeks from initial appt in November.

I have had to arrange my own blood tests every 2 weeks and have had to arrange to see my own GP tommorrow as I have no more medication left. Can my own GP issue me with more Meth and Folic acid? I have also booked in to have my bloods done while I am there.

Love n hugs

    Hi,
Sorry to hear you're having to wait for your appointment.

My GP prescribes all my medications for me, you rheumatologist should have sent them a letter stating what you are on so they can prescribe it for you.

Hope all goes well with your appointment

    Hi Sheila,

Sorry to hear you're feeling a little abandoned, it's just when we have so many questions and not an appointment in sight its's frustrating isn't it!! I would suggest you ring the rheumy department or see your GP. I came away from my appointment yesterday with a sheet of paper I wasnt sure I should have, maybe I should have handed in at reception, but it was a bit information overload with blood tests and ultrasound request forms. I guess I'll find out.

I'm sure we'll work it out.

I had problems getting my GP to prescribe Mtx because the hospital was doing the blood tests. Apparently, there is a code of prescribing where only the department checking your bloods can prescribe Mtx. So I had to go back to the hospital for repeat prescriptions which was a pain in the neck. Not all GP's seem to work that way, though they are supposed to!! Hope you get it sorted today.

My injected meth comes from the hospital, but when it was tablet meth they wrote to the GP and I aquired it via him. I have always arranged my own blood tests (back to fortnightly ones in January, yippee! I cannae wait! ) and you are now learning that there is often a discrepancy between what you are told by the medicos and what actually happens in real life once one is in the system - tedious, isn't it? The January date is now not that far away (and two months' wait seems about right) but yes, go to your GP as soon as you can and tell him you need more meth tablets etc - he must have had a letter by now. We find ourselves doing quite a lot of the 'administration' for ourselves, believe you me, in chasing letters, appointments, results etc. - it's all part of the rich arthritic tapestry of life. DD

Phew, that must have been a relief. Glad you got it sorted in the end. It is very reassuring that your blood test came back fine.

I hope things start to go more smoothly for you now.

And a very happy Christmas to you too. x:-D
