My son may have probable high function autium, dyslexia and dypraxia. I have got of support round us and more coming a lady from a charity called cariba has filled in forms and will help us through process. I though having my own dla experiences am left like jelly now when dealing with anything benefit related and having someone with me is a god send. I have been a course learning about my sons condition and am going to a support group next wk with 3 ladies i met from the course. My son enjoyed a free gardening class and at Christmas a free ice skating class with autism west midlands. children seem more looked after then adults with disability thats my experiencing any way. I am getting the benefit My son will have support if he is happy so am i. from joanne

    Hi Joanne.

As you know I have 2 boys on the autistic spectrum. Only 1 has a statement but both qualified for DLA so if you want any advice I can look through my forms and maybe help.My Son was 3 when I got his statement and it seemed easy at the time and all taken out of my hands, but now know this is far from true.
A friend also qualified for some financial help through the family fund recently to pay for music therapy lessons and other help. We got free pantomine tickets through our local autistic charity and had a much needed afternoon out as a family. I did the early bird course and learnt a lot.

I wish you all the best,

    Elizabeth xxxxx

Sorry to read about your eye Suncatcher. I hope it heals up soon. I had a bad scratchy eye last week and had to leave 1 contact lens out but it is better now. I think I scratched it.

My Son had his statement done 9 years ago. I just went with the flow. I had to get reports from all those involved in his care and it was very tiring when you also have to deal with ill health yourself. However i have been unable to get one for my older son although he does get some help with social skills and communication at his school. The statementing process can be draining and as C J Hunter said parent Partnership will help as can local autistic charities.

If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to help if I can, now the kids are back at school and Christmas is over!
    All the best
    Elizabeth

Thanks Elizabeth c hunter and skeiser. any help welcome. Thanks for support. I am tired with the eye and the wind is a problem keeping eye closed outside don't want anything blowing in. I will have to wait two wks to see if the laser treatment worked. I still got the floaters its like 3d a bit annoying though. reading is a bit harder with a dark patch. My other eye is blurry sometimes. The other eye takes the strain and does most of the work for the other anyway. It is under more pressure now thats why i am more tired. Resting as much as can.
I have appointments for me and son this wk. The occupational therapy is tomorrow for son. I went to blood test at hospital for me. Had a chat with senco today as i have more evidance to give for his benefit and neeeded her help with filling in more details on david. Any help or advice welcome. will join parent parnership when eye better i think. I have the number. anyway getting tired hear from you soon thanks all from joanne
