I've come out in a nasty rash

Sorry I've not been around for a few days but haven't been too good. Have developed a really nasty rash on my face and neck tonight and I am guessing it will be down to the Sulfasalazine. It's my 4th week and have been on max dose for a week. I am seeing nurse tomorrow so I presume it's ok to leave things overnight - no need to do anything? I'm thinking they might take me off it. There's no way I'm able to cover this with makeup although I must do my best or I'll frighten people on my way to the clinic!

Wishing you all a better year x

I think you should call nhs direct just to be on the safe side. It may not be anything to do with the sulfasalazine.

Thank you Flossy, Val and Toni for the advice  I rang NHS Direct and they got our local out of hours team to ring me. I shouldn't take my morning dose of Sulfa and they suggested Piriton as it does sound like an allergy. It hasn't helped as yet and the rash is spreading but my mind is eased so a BIG thank you as always! I am so glad to be seeing the nurse tomorrow as I feel so rubbish. I will try and catch up with all your posts tomorrow and try to offer some support to others! x

Thank you Annie and DD. The nurse took my bloods and will ring me today if anything untoward shows up as I will have to stop the Sulfasalazine if that's the case. If bloods are fine I am ok to persevere with it as long as the rash doesn't spread or get worse. It looks awful but I really want to give this drug a fair chance to work. Hope you are all doing ok today?

Good for you, Star. I hope the bloods are Ok and the rash abates. A lot of people seem to get problems with this med at first but then go on to find it really helps. I hope that's the case with you.

Gosh, I'm so glad I read this - just had a lightbulb moment.

I've been on sulfa for a while and have developed an itchy, ugly rash. I blamed the dogs and cats and have been de-fleaing them, de-fleaing the house etc but nothing seemed to work. No-one else in the house has this rash - just me (I thought it was because I am particularly tasty!).

NOW - I'm starting to think it may be the tabs.

How is your rash now Star - has it cleared up??

Ha ha! Thank you all - you do cheer me up! No call from nurse so bloods must be ok. Am really pleased about that. Rash is no better but certainly no worse so am going to keep persevering with things. Take care everyone.
