Hi all,

I getting a bit nervous about my visit to the Neuro tomorrow, not about visit itself - been there done that, more just worried about possible results.

I've been getting an increased recurrence of hand and feet spasms - along the lines of carpopedal/tonic spasms - the previous period of spasms lasted some 15 months before almost disappearing and was the reason for my previous visit to the Neuro when he was unable to offer me a diagnosis or even a reason. But the main reason for being referred this time was the neurological symptoms I was getting in my feet and ankles - going from dreadfully cold to burning hot in bed, with no normality in between and feeling a normal temperature to touch. Plus I was having all sorts of trouble trying keep my toes at a normal temperature at work, even took to wearing two pairs of socks, but to no avail.

Wish me luck
Scozzie

It's only natural to be nervous,
My first appointment consisted of various movements and sensory tests, nothing to sinister, then he ordered mri to rule out various things, which was done at a later date, i am due to see him march for results..
    Good luck

    Hello,
Good luck for tomorrow! I've been there and got worried but, the neuro couldn't find anything. I'm sure they are just being careful with you!

Hi Scozzie, are you done and dusted now? I've never had a neuro appointment (that's one department I haven't broached yet!) but I hope they are/were able to shed some light on what is going on with your tooties etc. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Thanks all,

What a disappointing appointment that was today! Got all the usual tests from the Neuro using his souped up tens machine, making my toes and feet jump every which way ... then came the needle, must be awful thin and sharp - cos it just slid in to my leg muscle, which was too sore til he asked to pull my toes toward me by flexing the ankle. I still a bit sore now.

Anyway, the disappointment was his total lack of interpersonal skills ... he had the rheumy's referral letter and asked me just a couple of perfunctory questions. At the end he said my rheumy would receive the results in a couple of weeks ... so who knows what happens next?

And then tonight, when I sat down to watch the TV I was seeing an unfocused double image screen ... which was improved a bit when I put my glasses on (I don't usually need to wear them for the TV) BUT the double vision was still there ... I did the usual covering one eye then the other only to find it only happening in one eye. Which I've googled only to find it's not too serious, but I do need to be careful of it.

    Cheers

Hi. Sorry you've had such a painful day, especially as you didn't learn anything. I hope they give the doctor a reading that will help him make a good diagnosis. Its horrible when you get all worked up to hear the result and then they just send you home none the wiser. Hope you hear from them soon.
Take care, love Sue  xx

    Thanks again all,

Yes, it was very frustrating - but not half as frustrating as being told by the boss I need to cut down on my appointments! I had a few in December as well as this one and three more to come in the next week, most OA related, even though I've made up every minute of lost time.

Not sure they realise just how much pain I can be in at work sometimes ... lol!!!

    Take care

Hi Scozzie, sorry for the rubbish appointment.. Hope that the rheumy can shed some light for you..
Those needles are rather intimidating eh? Lol
I think they'll be the same as I had for the nerve test years ago.. Plonked straight into the calf muscle..

As for work, think that's awful of them to say that.. Don't they understand that it's appointments like those that help you keep functioning enough to go to work.. Idiots.

Anyway, take care and good luck with the results.

    Tony,

I think it was the same sort of needles, not that bad going in but they hurt like hell when you're asked to move your foot ... lol.

As far as work goes, let's just say this isn't a good place to work. Being bullied as a fit person is just as bad as being bullied as an invalid.

    Cheers
