Hi everyone hope your as well as can be. I saw the Rheumy nurse last Thursday and she was brilliant, anyway all was good at that time apart from little niggles. Got up this morning and my ankles really were as I can only describe as a throbbing pain and my big toe had decided to join in too I also have pain in my shoulders and knees. I went to work for 8.30 got everything ready for the Pharmacist to arrive and sat on a buffet and cried. I was diagnosed in Nov last year with RA and only recently found out I have OA too. Anyway I managed to work till 5pm, came home collapsed on sofa and slept till 8pm as an 8 hour day with out a break is doing me in and spend most the day on my feet. I have asked at work to maybe work alternate Saturdays rather than every Saturday but none of the staff are willing to give up their weekends! I also work 4 hours a day Mon, Tues, Weds and Fri.

I know its early days as yet and need to get settled on medication of which I take Methotrexate and co co's.

Sorry for the rant and feeling sorry for myself.

Love n hugs

SheilaD xx

Not a rant at all - I have just had a good old moan too so I empathise completely!

No idea how you are managing to work, no wonder you are tired out and fed up - I hope things improve very soon for you.

Thank you all for your replies,

Valval the reason I do 8 hours straight is because we are short staffed and have to keep the Pharmacy open during 9am till 5pm. I eat in between serving customers which dont help the digestive system and can make a drink as and when i need one. I do occasionally manage to grab a sit down for a few minutes but really dont know what to do or who to turn to about this.

they need to sort this it to much for any one and with arther imposible if they have not got the staff they should shut for dinner they have a duty of care and they are not keeping to there part of the agreement if you go into flare they will be even more short handed val

I think I need to pull myself together and challenge the hours on a Saturday, its very hard to do as I feel really down at the mo and very weepy. But will have a chat with my supervisor on Monday and will let you know what has been said/done.

    Thank you Val

I really understand what it is like to have to be on your feet for long periods as that is what it was like for me at work. The burning/stabbing pain in your legs and feet is terrible and the tiredness is draining. The thing is no-one else at work knows how bad it feels as, apart from hobbling a bit, you look ok. I understand you don't want to let them down, I was the same, but there comes a time when you have to do what is right for you.
It might be an idea to make an appointment with OH and get some 'reasonable adjustments' put in place if that is possible where you work. I assume it is B***s or somewhere like that?
It is law that you have a break after 4 hours work and with 8 hours you should get a Half hour to hour lunch break and 2 x 10 minute paid breaks.
I hope they are going to employ someone else so that they are not so short staffed.
Good luck with seeing your supervisor on Monday.

    Hi
I dont know how you do it......and it is against the law.....4hours and thats it....you should have a break/lunch PAID
Good luck on Monday......is there no one you can get onside to help you fight your case ...I can understand that you feel down and not able to fight with them....if thats what it takes. :x
8 hrs without a break would be dreadful even if we didnt have arthur never mind RA and OA

    Hi,
This is definately against the law.Lunch breaks aren't normally paid but you should be paid for 2 10 minute breaks morning and afternoon.
It's not your problem they are short staffed.....the more you do the more they expect you to do.
There are loads of people out of work who would jump at the chance of a job.
Please for your healths sake get this sorted. Why should you be the one working all day saturday and nobody else will.
You must get your priorities right....good luck on Monday and don't forget to let us know what happens.

    Hi Sheila,

Sorry your not so good and things are hard for you.

I know its sometimes hard but you do need to sort something out with work cus this just isn't fair on you at all. I think as val said they do have some form of duty of care and is there a oh at work you could talk to?

I so hope your feeling a lot better and things can be sorted for you work wise as well.

Oh and h100.gif as well. A ((( ))) and a bucket of feel better Cris xx

There's a birthday thread for you on ChitChat - I know you are fairly new to the forum and may not know that that is one of our traditions! I hope you have had a lovely day. DD
