my first time on here, plz be gentle with me. i have RA, i was diagnosed 2010, still getting my tablets right. i'v had a cold for a few weeks, really affected my RA, but getting there slowly....what i'm writing to ask is has anyone had a bad experence with Strepsils orange and vitimin C.....? i had a lozenge this morning and about 30 mins to an hour later i had chills, feeling cold to the core and physically shaking. i put it down to the cold but this evening i had another lozenge and the same thing happened again.....could the ingredients affect my tablets? methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine? any idea's?

Hi Joanne, I am always gentle, honest
Sounds like a reaction for sure. Some meds do react with other things. Im on cyclosporin and have to avoid grapefruit.
Dont know of this happenin on mtx (been on that too) but never say never.
I would avoid them and speak with pharmacy or maybe call nhs direct as its weekend. Would let rheummy nurse know on mon though.
See gentle

Hi
Welcome to the forum,
I've never heard of that before but it certainly sounds like a reaction.
Ring your pharmicist on Mon and see if it reacts with any of the others you are on.
I wouldnt have thought of that....but then some people dont think about cold and flu remedies while they are taking paracetamol and that doubles the dose of paracetamol.
Medicines and reactions are weird and we are weird

Oh Dear
in your postition l would try some other lozenge like maybe s**thers.
having said that the chills l often get with a temperature with the arthritis itself when l am flaring...... :???:
I think though that Hileena's advice is good perhaps for toorrow when the pharmacies will all be open..take some advice and in the meantime don't risk it

Methotrexate is well known for clashing with other medications , so I agree with the advice you've given by others ; avoid it until you can check . Jillyb0

Hello Jo welcome to the forum
Strepsils contain Dextromethorphan that doesent mix to well with many other medications esspecialy relaxents or sleeping medication.Dextromethorphan is designed to stop the signals from your brain telling you to cough. scary stuff for an over the counter med.

Hi Jo
welcome to the forum
I have been chomping on strepsils in the last couple of weeks and I am on methotrexate. I Didn't have a reaction though. (neither did they help )
I hope you find another lozenge that can help with your throat that doesn't cause this to happen again
Take care
