Hi,

M.R.I 7pm 9th january.

Well i had my mri on my lower lumbar/sacral must admit i was worried about it so when i got there it was in a portable scanner and the girls were very friendly and helpfull which put me at ease a bit so i had 3 tests 2 were for 3 mins and the last was for 3 and a half mins so my time was cut by 45 mins and not the hour i was led to believe it took.

Must admit it's not an experience i want to do again tho'. And i still have a week to go for my results so i'm still in the dark but a little bit closer to finding out how bad my back has got.

Well thanks for listening vwkamper

Hi and welcome to the forum
I was the same when I went for my first MRI...it was in a carpark at a very well known DIY store...but like you say they are friendly and they get the job done
Most hospital now have the mobile ones...so suppose we will have to get used to them.
Please let us know how you gat on with the results xz

Hi and welcome to the forum, I to have all ways had good experiences with the nurses at the M.R.I scanner. They all ways try to calm your nerves and make you feel comfortable.
As you say it's the waiting for the results that is the hardest, the time goes so slow and your on edge waiting for the days to pass.
Hope everything goes all right and you get the results you want.

    Well done again VWCamper

that's a job well-done  Now you just gotta wait.

The MRI l had prior to my back surgery took about 20 minutes as l recall. Tis the racket no-one ever tells you about isn't it?! BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!!

Good luck with the results and hope they can do something for you then.

Hi vwk, I am glad to hear that it went smoothly for you and yes, let's hope the results come through soon. I have had my knees done on at least three occasions and I remember the noise (muffled by the headphones but still distracting) and the fact I had very cold feet by the end of them! I think they just put an average time in their letters etc as different people have different scans, mine always took about 30 minutes. Let us know what the results show, yes? DD

    Hi,

A big thanks for all your welcomes and replies

The noise was very bad and the vibrations i nearly squeezed my panic button because it made me jumpy but all seemed to go ok, i know what to expect if there's ever a next time.(hopefully not tho')

Hi VWK, dont you go worrying about your results coming in quick, that just means that there were either good staffing levels or 7pm was a good time to go for ya scan.
Mine on my back lasted 45mins, with the music not working. mine only took a week to get back and they said two so dont fret.

am now waiting for mri of knee, at least dont have to go all the way in eh

I am sure that you have nothing to worry about. The quickness of the results could be the fact that they probably didnt run too many over the christmas period and you were lucky enough to be one of the first of the new year.

The results and the treatment that are given after them should help you through.

Dont forget you arent on your own. We are all here to listen and keep your spirits up.

    Hope the results go well

    Hi Vwkamper

Welcome to the forum from me too.

Mri scans can make you a little jumpy with all that noise. It sounds as if you are in a washing machine on an uneven load doesn't it

I hope your results are back soon and that you can get a diagnosis and the help you need to treat it.

    Hi
I think that they give us a longer wait date than it really takes to stop people going too soon. Also, I don't know about your area, but here GP's can see the results by a link on the computer system. Or at least they are supossed to able to, half the time its off line when I've been! Try not to worry too much. Love Suexxx

    Hi all,

Well i got them and i was tested from T9 down to S1, all lumbar are desiccated.
    T12 has a Schmorl's node.
L1/L2 Intervertebral disc is desiccated-broad circumferential disc bulge-anterior osteophyte formation.
L2/L3 Intervertebral disc is desiccated-Modic type 2 degenerative endplate changes-broad disc bulge indenting the Theca-narrowing exit Foramina left side adequate-anterior osteophyte formation.
L3/L4 Intervertebral disc is desiccated-Broad circumferential disc bulge indenting the Theca-Exit Foramina narrowed on the right side remains adequate.
L5/S1 Central Annular tear-Spinal canal and Foramina adequate no evidence of compression at this level.

My spinal canal is all adquate with no compression all the way down.

So i am being referred to a specialist.
Does anyone have any idea what this means for me treatments or op's?? as i have no idea what to expect next.

Oh and my doctor took me off my Amytriptyline and put me on Fluoxetine Hydrochloride 20mg 1x daily.

    Thanks for looking vwkamper

We're knowledgeable folk on here about all kindsa stuff, but I doubt that any of us are that fluent in Medic. As with all professions there is a lingo that goes with it that only the fully-trained will understand. I hope you will see someone soon who can put it into plain English for you. All I know from that list is that anterior means front and I think osteophyte means some sort of bone growth. DD

    Thanks for the kind words,

Well i'm still waiting for my appointment but at least i know it's on the way.

I must say tho' the stress and anxiety of it all has made my panic attacks more aggressive so my doctor has changed my antidepressant from amytriptiline to fluorexetine hydrochloride but i've been told i have a few weeks for it to kick in and today is only my 13th day.
