Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this? I'm due to see a podiatrist next month. I've been told I've got flat feet. I get terrible ankle pain and they're both very swollen. Anyway, do they do an examination? Xrays?

Thanks,

Magenta x

Hi Magenta, when i saw a Podiatrist he did not do any xrays. He watched the way i walked bare foot and measured me up for shoe insoles.
I dont know if they do request xrays. Sorry couldnt be more helpful

    Good luck

    Hi Clare and Lynn,

Thanks for the replies. Hope you are both well?
I'm due to see them on the 9th Feb. All I know is that I'm really suffering with bad pain and swelling in my ankles. I've got OA in both of my big toes and my feet are killing me. I'm getting a sore cramp in my calf muscles every now and then. I've looked up some stuff on the internet and alot say that podiatrists can do xrays. I've been given an appt. for an examination and fitting of orthoses. I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the link Lynn, much appreciated. I'll send you an email soon, (I'm not feeling great today).

    Hi Mig and Julie,

    Thanks for replying

My appointment is on the 9th of Feb so not long, however, it seems that my problems are getting worse by the day.

Mig, can I ask what you have been diagnosed with? Is it OA or RA? Is it common for people with arthritis to get flat feet? I have lots of other probs with my feet. I get a 'pinging' toe which is very painful. Also wonder if that's why my knees are so bad. They're very sore and swollen. Is that similar to what you've experienced? Sorry, so many questions!

Julie, I so wish they can help too. Apparently I have fluid in my ankles which the rheumy said could be caused from some trauma-so there must be something going on.

    Anyway, thanks again,

    Eileen xx

    Hi Magenta,

I think the majority of people with arthritis have flat feet.

My podiatrist doesn't do x-rays, the clinic isn't big enough. On my first visit the examination was mainly to test the pulses in your feet and check the circulation. They clean between your toes   and cut your nails for you.

Your experience might be different so let us know what happens.

    Hi again Clare,

It does seem that alot of folk on here have seen a podiatrist. I just want/need help!

    Hi Linda,

Nice to see you again  Hope you are doing ok? The podiatrist is within my local hospital so I'm hoping as I've not had an xray on my ankles before, then they my get one done-wishful thinking I know, but why not eh?

    Thanks,

    Eileen xx
