Bakers Cyst!

Hi Everyone

I haven't been in touch for sometime as my RA is being controlled fairly well. But 2 weeks ago I experienced over whelming pain in the back of my knee and down my leg. When I looked at the back of my knee it was full of fluid and bulged out. The doctor diagnosed a Bakers Cyst. I understand what it is, I also have RA.This is known to happen with this condition. I was told to strap it up and take pain killers and let the fluid absorb into my body. How long will this take? I am in pain every day. Also I have a lot of pain in my thigh like a stabbing pain and my knee gave way the other day whilst coming down the stairs. Should someone with RA be left with fluid in the back of their knee?
I recently stopped all my diclofenic(Nov) as it was raising my ALT level and was then put on Plaquenil,200mg twice a day, any coincidence that this has now happened to my Knee?
Any advice is greatly received, also happy new year to everyone.

Jo :D

    Hi Jo

poor you :( Doesn't sound good at all.

I doubt the addition of plaquenil means anything, but would have thought that NSAIDs like diclo would have helped. Is there a different one the GP can give you instead??

I am sure l heard someone on here have a steroid jab into their's. Maybe that is wrong, but if l were in your shoes l know l would go back to the docs and explain how much pain you are in :(

    Hi Jo
My OH had a bakers cyst early last year, like you say the pain was horrendous, he was treated for a DVT for 3 days till he could get a scan, this showed it was a bakers cysts, he was on strong painkillers for a week, after that, then the pain started to subside, but the swelling took at least 6 weeks to disappear
It was caused by OA in his knee...touch wood he has been fine since
Wishing you well with it all xx.
    Love

    Hi Jo,

Oh they do hurt flower. I hope the gp is keeping a good eye on that one for you as well?

Time... its always time but strap it up and rest it and I so hope it will soon ease up in the hurting.

I also think its unlikely to be the plaqueni, its just sods law as like as not.

Hey glad they have the RA better controlled for you and tis nice to see you again, just wish it wasn't for the bakers. Leaving you a cyber ((( ))) and a hope. Cris xx

A few years ago I had bursitis in my hip joint and had an injection people told me how painful it would be and I was really scarred to death, but it wasn't too bad and it worked!
Don't know about the knee injections though. Love Sue

Thanks to everyone who has replied, lovely to hear from you all. My Doctor told me to go to work as normal, luckily I only work part time and can rest my knee when I get home. But all the advise on line says you should rest it as well as strap it up.
Makes you wonder whether I am doing more harm than good. I get more pain in the evenings when I finally get to rest.

Hope the swelling goes down soon.

    :D xx
