Oramorph

Hello :)
I was wondering if any of you lovely peeps have ever taken or take Oramorph for severe pain? And the results you had with it?

To say that im worried and cheesed off is an understatement. Last week The pain in my lower back and neck began to increase, culminating in what I can only describe as hell on Friday. The pain had me vomiting and crying. So I phoned my doc for some help and he reluctantly prescribed me Oramorph. (I usuallt take co-codamol 30/500 and celebrex) I swigged down the dose he had prescribed (5mls) and waited. And waited, and waited... It did absolutely nothing. So 2 hours later in desperation I doubled the dose I had been prescribed (had checked the instruction leaflet and seen it was safe to do so) and finally got some relief from the pain. However it only helped in the way that the co-codamol usually do on an 'average' day.
So this leaves me extremely worried. What do I do if the pain becomes that bad again? What is left to take if the oramorph just 'tickles the sides'?
Does anyone else find that oramorph does little for such bad pain? Maybe I just left it too late to contact the doc :?

Thanks for reading this :)

I too have a bottle of the stuff... I take it when things are bad, but I take it on top of everything else, not that I'm advising you do that unless the doctor has said it's ok.. I find it does help. Depending on what kind of pain I'm having though, sometimes a sedative is the only thing that helps.. Especially if my back 'goes' then tamazapam/diazapam are the drug of choice.
I hope things ease for you soon.. This arthritis rubbish certainly keeps us on our toes eh?
    Best wishes.. :D

    Hi
    The GP put me on oromorph when I fractured my plevis and SI joint......the pain was dreadful.....2.5 mils {half a teaspoon???}
That was taken on top of my usual paracetamol and naproxon for arthritis.
It worked wonders at the time I needed it......she then put me on slow release tablets. Once the really bad pain started easing off she cut them down a bit and kept doing so until I was off them......Still got the bottle of oromorph.
Basically.....it worked wonders at the time. Thats about all I can say

    Hi Rosycheeks.
i take 30/100 co co's and diclofenic when i went to the doc because the pain across my back got worse and my legs aching he gave me oramorph and told me to take it in between the co co's i also found it helps if you sit and put your feet up.
    i hope that helps.

My bottle says that a dose of 5 or 10mls can be taken up to four times a day. It's ages since I resorted to it but it would briefly remove about 80% of the pain. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Thanks for your replys. :D
I know that if I was to take the oramorph now then it would work well. But I dont feel I need it now, just the good old cocodamol 4 times a day. What scared me was that when I really needed a good strong painkiller, the oramorph did little to help. It made me feel almost claustraphobic thinking I was going to be in never ending severe pain and even morphine wouldnt help me. Of course now that my neck and lower back are not so painful I dont feel nearly as bad. :)

    Hi Rosycheeks

it sounds as though you are 'the wrong side'of the pain at the moment.

That might sound mad but once you have caught it up and got ahead of it...the art is staying there. You will need less pain releif once you have cracked it.

I too have heaved with pain and it is very hard to get on top of :( .

Does that sound mad?? l do hope you feel better very very soon.

    Love

Hi Rosycheeks, I have been on and off oromorph for years now! I would say I'm an expert with the amounts I've been on and the amount of time I've been taking!! (still not as good as your doc though! :) ) . I have always taken Oromorph on top of other pain relief meds, Oromorph is used as a top up pain relief helper! I take 70mg's of M.S.T and take 15-20mg's of Oromorph to top up my pain relief. I have been higher on the Oromorph but it can make you feel like a zombie. My Doc trusts me to increase the Oromorph by 5mg's per dose if it doesn't ease the pain every time due a dose but that's because I have been on it for so long and my G.P & I have a trusting relationship and we always have a phone consultation every other Monday. And we discuss my medication what I'm taking and how my pain is. So you shouldn't increase your dose without your G.P agreeing to it. Hope you find some relief from the pain soon.
