Hi has anyone else experienced these things going together? I have gallstones but they've not given me any bother recently until 3 weeks ago I started getting jip after meals and at night - and for three weeks my liver function tests have also been raised. I don't know if the two things are connected but wonder if it's coincidental that my dose of MTX was doubled to 15mgs and for the past 2 weeks has been down again to 10mgs. The liver and gallbladder are pretty tied up in one another after all?

Hi
I dont know anything about Methotrexate but as I had Gallstones up to 2 years ago I do know that they can badly affect your liver function. I had them really bad, my liver function was all over the place. when I had the operation my liver was back to normal within a few weeks.
I'm having problems with it now but thats due to all the Meloxicam and Hydroxychlorine I'm taking.
I hope this helps.0 -

Sorry Carol but do you mean that you are still having gallstone problems now even though you had your galbladder removed or do you mean that your liver function is raised? A bit confused.
My liver function has returned to normal I think (will hear today if not) and the gallbladder pain has abated too - my GP put me back on Omazeprole and that seemed to help but he thinks it might have been an ulcer starting to form from long term regular ibuprofen so I'm avoiding all pain meds for now unless I'm in flare.

Hello again mat.
I was on Methotrexate for some years I also had problems with my liver function. The Rheumy nurse would say it might not be the methotreate but it was. I insisted on my bloods being done the day prior the Methotecate and two days after the Methotrexate. There was a marked difference between them and i stopped the MTX. During this same period i developed Gal stones and already had a kidney stone. I had my Gal bladder out but still have the kidney stone. Now i dont know if it was the MTX that caused it but i have been taking high dose steroids for years and with them i have to take calsium tablets calsium is what the stones are made of. so there we have it. one of the best things i ever done is have my Gal bladder out. I was in so much pain it was hard to cope.
Take care
