I'm not going to count my chickens to early but I managed nearly 8 hours sleep last night. I think the Amitriptyline actually helped. Took it at 8 and was in the land of nod just after 10. Did wake up a couple of times but nodded back off quite easily. So much for taking a couple of weeks to kick in. Fingers crossed that this continues.

I'm so pleased it helped you! And you managed 8hrs that's great bet you hope it carries on! When you find that your slipping back into your old pattern go back to G.P and she will proberly increase it for you. I've been taking Amitriptyline for years now and it does work for a while and I then just need a small increase! I'm up to 70mg now and that's still working pretty good.

It's such a relief after 5 years of not sleeping. Didn't have any pain either last night so I think the exercises from the physio are helping. I hope the Amitriptyline carries on working but I have got another appointment booked for 2 weeks time to check how things are going.
I was a little bit drowsy this morning but not enough to stop me doing things.

    Hi Flossy
The drowsiness does wear off after a week or so of taking them...I take mine at 7...then off to bed around ten, I have upped them twice but they are still working well after 2 years.

Think it only kicked in quickly because I was so tired. I'll take it at 8 again tonight and see how it goes. It was so nice to actually sleep.

Hi Flossy, just wanted to add as you mentioned about feeling drowsy in the morning, that is one of the many side effects you get from Amitriptyline I'm afraid! I always feel slightly hung over of a morning. I have had times where I have acctually had nausea and been sick! Funny thing that, I knew I was going to be sick, and I knew I was going to be sick any second so I hung out the bedroom window and threw up out of it!! So I'm sure you will cope with the side effects they only last a few hours and your doing alright at the moment. :)

    Another good night last night.

The fuzzy head seems to clear quite quickly so I don't see that as too much of a problem.

I just hope that it continues to help.

    Hi DD.

The Amitriptyline is still helping. Had 4 good nights now. In fact last night was so good that I didn't wake up till 9 this morning. That could be a problem once I find a new job but it's ok at the moment. Obviously I still have alot of sleep to catch up after 5 bad years.

    Quick update.
The amitripyline is still working thank goodness. I have an appointment to see the gp next Thursday to check how things are going.
Hopefully I have now broken the habit of not sleeping. Don't know what would happen if I stopped taking the tablets so I'm hoping doc says I can stay on them.

She said that it could just be a short term solution. I need to get to the root of the problem really and not rely on something to help me sleep.
I'm dreading going on Thursday as I hate going to the docs. I have had a few bad appointments in the last couple of years when the doc has basically said that my pain is a figment of my imagination. I know now that this is not true but I still worry that the doc won't believe me.
