Hi
I have eye problems but no one can give me a diagnosis or agree with each other.
Not just watery eyes.....Tears streaming down my cheeks fairly constantly.
Optician says dry eyes, GP said Bletharitis, new GP says dry eyes
In between saw an opthalmic consultant....who was horrible.
Didnt tell me what it was, gave me a nose spray, said Use That {this was last May..} It eased a bit but for a couple of months now its been back with a vengance.
I cant be online for any length of time, cant knit for more than 5 or 10 mins or read for more than 5 mins.
More to the point its making me feel really down. I cant keep make up on, if I go out I'm constantly wiping the tears away......its all very embarrasing.
I do have an appt again with the eye clinic but not until the end of March.
Sorry for ranting
Love

Could it be blocked Tear Ducts??0

Don't have this uncomfortable problem thankfully , my eyes are the opposite and need constant drops . Just wanted to send sympathetic positive vibes . Jillyb0

I do have this problem, but not as severe as you. My optician and doctor both say it's dry eyes, caused by arthritis. Something about over compensating. Hypromellose eye drops help me, but it sounds as though you need something more. Wish you luck.0

Thanks Elna...got your e.mail.....havent studied it yet. I'll pm you later.
Muffy......according to the doc in the eye dept NO not blocked eye ducts.
but not sure how much faith i have in him :? Hopefully will get a different one in March
Thanks Jillyb
Numpty......My GP gave me those eyedrops when I went back to her to hopefully see me over until I saw the opthalmic dept......how often do you use yours.???

I use 2 drops in each eye, between 2 and 4 times daily, depending on how bad it is. It took a few weeks to work and if I stop using them the problem comes back. When I first used them I was using them 4 times a day. Hope this helps.0

Hi Thanks
It does help......I think because i've been told so many different things by different people that I try things a few times and if it doesnt work I think........the other one must be right

Hello Hileena
So sorry your eyes are giving you such problems. I have Sjogrens related eye problems and it is currently having a big impact on what I do so you have all my sympathy. Like you I was also shunted back and forth between GP, Optician, and eye hospital before I finally got a proper diagnosis and some help.
Apparently eye consultants are specialists in different parts of the eye (yes, really) and, in my experience, it can take a while to get to the right specialist. Given how bad it is for you at the moment, would you consider going back to the GP so he can see for himself what is going on? Maybe the GP could arrange for you to be seen at the eye clinic sooner (and hopefully with a different doc) Or does your hospital have an eye emergency dept you could attend? Mine does and that's how I finally ended up getting an appt with the right specialist.
Thinking of you.

Hi Hileena
Sorry that you have this annoying condition to cope with. My mum had similar problems a few months ago. Mum went to optition and gp and was given drops luckily this did help after a while, but in the meatime like you she would be constantly wiping her eyes.
I hope you get your problem sorted too
Take care

Hi Julie and Tilly,
It does have such an impact on your life doesnt it? I can cope with arthur pain much better.....probably because i know what it is.
I thought an eye consultant was an eye consultant if you know what I mean.
I saw my GP about a week ago and she said "I'm glad you've got an appointment at the eye hospital so meantime I'll treat it as dry eyes and give you these drops....he has better equipment to diagnose exactly what it is" She is now in Africa Just gone on a 5 month sabbatical to help out.
We have an eye walk in department which i went to and they refused to see me because i had been seen last May......tried to get me out.....I sat there until they got a doc in but she was as much use as a chocolate teapot told me they would get me an appt asap.
Thanks for the good wishes

Hi Hileena
Sorry I cant offer any help, but I do hope that your appointment in March is more constructive, I can only imagine how annoying and uncomfortable it is.
Fingers crossed the eye drops work. xLove

Yes, dry eyes causes the eye watering, just the opposite of what you think would happen, itchy/painful/sore and at times just a blooming nuisance!0
-
Hello, yes i suffer with this my eyes are either streaming beyond controle or they feel full of grit. I do have drops i think its just a form of water or lubricant. Rheumy says its all part of the RA for some people.

Thank you for raising this problem. Your descriptions are virtually identical to my own! As I've always had some difficulty with my eyes - mostly caused by reaction to some make-up products - I've been putting up with it but recently it's just been almost constant streaming.
Now that I know that it could be a diagnosable, treatable problem I'll mention it to my GP, just as soon I have survived an upcoming MRI scan of my brain (will they find one?) following the last "little thing" I mentioned to the doc, while reviewing my OA meds.
It's so good to browse through this forum and find others who are dealing with things in a positive, supportive way!

Hi
I'm sorry you are suffering as well. Mine are so bad they constantly stream {recently} at one time it was off an on but now!!!!!
Your GP might give you a reference to the eye dept at your hospital.
The only thing is I'm getting different diagnosis from all that I see
I have an appt with the eye hospital again in March so hopefully I'll find out def. what it is and how to cope with it.
Hope you get things sorted. Let me know what happens
Love
