Any tips for tendonitis in or around the hip

Has anyone got any experience with tendonitis in/around the hip. (Mine's a THR but I'm not sure how relevant that is. X-rays show the THR is OK.)

It 'went' on me two and 1/2 weeks ago and is improving slowly. I've ditched the tramadol (though some nights I'm tempted but they mess with my stomach) and can now walk (carefully) on it for short distances but it's hard lifting it to walk, and any small 'step', ie the lip between carpet & tiles, has to be pre-planned. Standing up always begs the question "Is this really necessary?" Someone still has to lift the leg into the car and I've had enough of Mr SW having to dress me and trying to put my knickers on using the waist bit for a leg.

Any tips for a speedier recovery? The physio told me over a week ago I could resume my quads but I can't do the straight leg raises on that leg as nothing happens.

Hi, I suffer from this constantly and apparently I have proximal and distal muscle weakness. I have also had bursitis, I had a joint injection which helped temporarily, but it came back. Sorry not to be more help, never really had an expalnation for mine exceot the diesease causing it.

Docs say muscle weaknesss due to gravity, cant raise leg, causes all manner of problems, is only right sided for me though. Bizarre, 5 years now and counting!!

Hope you get answers, sooner than me. Feel free to PM me.

    Hi Sticky..

Sorry to hear your having trouble with your hips..
The things i use to help with pain you have more than likely used yourself, i have heard that there is a waist band that goes around your hips as a support which is supposed to help, i am looking at getting one myself to see if it helps with extra support..
A tip for getting in bed lifting yourleg... use a dressing gown belt on your feet and use the belt to lift leg up, works well for me..
Hope things ease soon and i am sure mr SW is loving egtting you dressed and helping with your knickers lol..xx

Hmmmm. On the knicker front would wearing a pair of his be easier? Whatever the style mens' pants tend to be more clearly 'defined' than ladies'.

On the tendonitis front I have no idea apart from time being a factor in the healing process. It takes time for the build-up of stress on a limb to lead to its sudden 'going' so logically it will also take time for the healing and strengthening bit to happen. Get thee out in that lovely sunshine lass, (well, I assume it's sunny where you are, it's glorious here!) soak up the vit D whilst you can, do whatever exercises you feel help (you know yourself best after all) and I hope that things begin to feel better soon, I really do. Just had a thought SW, how is your back? I have severe degenerative disk disease and problems with lumbar and sacrum. This presses on a nerve and causes me problems. I am never sure what causes what with me, I know it doesnt help when you also have hip problems.

Just wondering if it is possible, that is part of the problem at all??? Either way maybe physio is in order to help you solve the mystery and regain the strength? I found them to be very good.

Thank you all for your replies which are much appreciated.

Airwave - I don't think it's bursitis as most of the pain is in the groin.

Suzygirl - I think my back is one of the better bits of me. The top & bottom bits aren't up to much but the middle section functions reasonably. However I suspect there is a weakness around the groin as the TKR below is is past its sell by date and the ankle below that turns so far outwards it's heading for 90 degrees now.

Traluvie - I don't think a hip belt would help as I don't think the hip joints are a problem. I can use my other leg to hoist it into bed  , it's just the car that's currently a bit of a pain. (Other leg can't help on that side.)

DD - You are right. I am an impatient patient (though that's not what you said). I am getting plenty of sunshine though, with much justification, I hesitate to get my groin out in public. Wearing his underpants??? In our much younger days, I once did, with disastrous consequences. Remind me to tell you the story sometime.

Julie - No, mine twists them too. Do you supppose they both attended the same knicker-putter-onning school?

    Hi Sticky,

ts not nice flower... I get it here and there and the only real cure is rest it.... mine is especially in the arms but they gave me some elbow clips... They do hep but there is no way they can do that for the hips....

I used a ton of gel as well and honestly the only way I got rid of it ( well made it less painful) was to not aggravate it and let it recover and not be pulled about.

Mine is caused by the one I wont have i got and strain from heaving heavy stuff about..... they do say some of the lumber and neck is tendonitis.... Sticky it is evil but you can get it comfortable and not irritate it.... which I do a lot....

You sure it is tendonitis and not as Airwave said bursitis? Mind most my pain is also in the groin when-it comes to hips and thats never been bursitis but maybe a steroid jab could help? The pain doc did say it can for the ribs at least...... mind Sticky that was each individual rib and she said it was agony so we thought I would pass for now

Mine normally runs a 6 weeks course or so if I rest it... if I don't it lasts months! The clips do help but I just cant see them being able to do ones for hips but might be worth asking the ot?

Hang in there, slap on the gel and try to not use that tendon too much. Haz said are you ready cus he wearing the suit ((((( ))))) and Slurps is leaving a cuppa..... go on be brave an drink it  Cris xx
