Hi All.
Had fusion surgery in September and as much as I pushed (rang up, wrote and spoke to GP), I never had a follow up until today.
Thursday before xmas I had a phone call from plaster room, saying you do not need to wear your cast anymore so since then, I have had no cast on.
Well today has turned out quite bad after an appointment and xray etc.
Joints has in fact not even started to fuse, still huge gaps between them with medal in the way.
The way it has been bolted together has left me with a foot that means my big toe and the ball of my foot at the bottom of my big toe never touches the floor, when I walk.
He also told me today that I have a ligament that has been torn so that is the reason why I cant move my big toe. I said when did that happen, he said in the operation.
Means that I have to have another operation Well annoyed as some of you may know, I am profoundly deaf as well and I have just got my dream job working in a deaf school for profoundly children (primary school age). May have to give that up now
Sorry for the rant

Oh Sailrib, I am so very sorry to hear about this. I find it astonishing that they left you so long without follow-up. Which hospital did you go to? I mentioned you to my surgeon and explained that you had had no follow up. He was appalled. I hope you're going to ask for a second opinion, or go to P.A.L.S.
Wishing you the very best of luck with whatever you have to go through. XXSue (Cloud9)0 -
That sounds very upsetting Sailrib. I can't believe they left you so long. Seeing as they did, surely they can schedule the surgery so it falls in the holidays so you can have time to recover? Don't give up the dream job, see if you can work round the op. Or is it too difficult for you to get around? I'm sorry to ask but I don't really know your circumstances.0

Hi Sailrib,
Hey I think you're more than entitled to have a rant, my goodness I can't believe how badly treated you've been by so called professionals.
I can only echo what Sue has said, pals is a good place to start.
I am so sorry Sailrib, is there any way you could speak to your employer and explain the situation?
I wish I could do more to help, all I can say is perhaps give the helplines a call? they are in touch with a lot of organisations and are a font of information.
Sending you my love and hugs (((((()))))) Xxx'grá agus solas'

Dear Sailrib
I am so very upset for you as I have been every single time that you have posted on the forum about your operation and your total non care afterwards and lack of communication. Seeing your doctor/attending appointments/your stay in hospital should not be stressful. You have rights. The medic(s) should ask you how you would like the communication to work, e.g. professional lip-speaker, sign language, written notes passed, longer appointments, etc.The medic should at least make an effort to look at you so you can lip read at the very least, not look at the computer/floor or anywhere than at you. Surely they have a legal responsibility to make sure you get the same level of service as a hearing person. I know it can be difficult to stand-up for your rights, especially from a medic, who you are relying on and do not want to upset. It is so unfair. I would have loved to have been there to help you but of course could not be. None of this should have happened. You should complain, complain. The problem is you will have to have copies of correspondence, dates, times, names. Without facts it will be so difficult. As it is the medical profession stick together. You have without a doubt been let down by the system. I am totally gutted for you.
I sincerely hope that things turn around for you as you so deserve things to get better and that you can stay in your dream job.

Oh sailrib
I am so very sorry, this should never have happened and if I were you I would demand they do the op when you are ready or can fit it in...I just hope that your bosses are understanding...gosh I am fuming for you, and Elna has said it all really...you must put in a complain and keep copys of the letters or emails
Wishing you well with everything I really do xxLove

You are in my thoughts, Sailrib. To my way of thinking, it is gross negligence you have received from the medical profession with the episode of this op and post op and at the very least you need an apology and the best of care from now on.

Sailrib what awful news. They should have monitored you and picked this up sooner.
But can you continue with the wonderful job? It would be awful to lose such an opportunity.
all-in-all you deserve an apology and help to keep that job!
Wishing you all the best,

Thanks people
Im not in any pain what so ever so I am going to have the operation in the summer holidays. I am going to make the surgeon book me in for then.
Im less angrey then what I was but still a bit annoyed as I want all this over and done with.
I am going to PALS. I have wrote them a letter and sent it off over the weekend. See where we go.
Really strange as the actual operation kept getting cancelled and I was not happy, but the care whiles I was in hopsital was the best care I have every had. (very ill as a child and was in hospital a lot). Then since I was discharged it has been very poor again.
Thanks.0
