It's been a long time since I posted about having to have my other hip done hoping it will alleviate the problem I have had with my knee. Well we are running way past the 18week wait now but just had a phone call from the PCT offering me to go into the PRIVATE HOSPITAL near to where I live to have my THR in the next few weeks.Has anyone been in this situation I must say I was a bit taken aback, I agreed but feel a little anxious comments please !!!! :o

    Hi,
It's nothing to worry about.A friend of ours had his done in a private hospital on the NHS.
He thought it was great. All the perks of private at no cost to him.
Possibly its a case of beds/staff I don't know but I certainly would be pleased if it was me.
    Good luck May

Juliepf had her neck op done in a private hospital after her NHS chappie let her down with a 28 week wait. (I think it was 28 anyway!) They do this and it's nothing to worry about - at least you are going to get sorted and that is what counts. Good luck and let us know how you get on! DD

    Hi,
I had both my hips done in a private hospital under care of same surgeon I saw in the NHS clinic so had the experiance of private care twice. This was in 2007 and the reason given was the strict waiting times in force then. As far as I could see I was treated the same as any other patients there. I was unfortunate in that I needed further surgery a year afterwards as the muscles came off at the greater trochanter. I had this repaired in an NHS hospital, same surgeon. again I had good treatment but I was a bit miffed to hear two members of staff complaing about people "me" having private treatment and then turning to the NHS when it goes wrong.I must had my assertive head on that day. I firmly but politely put them right.

    Oh May
You jump at the chance, my friend has just had his second hip done and they sent him to a private hospital, he said it was brilliant, the nursing staff the food..yeah he does like his food...and was seen each day by his surgeon...
Wishing you well with it all x

Absolutely go for it you won't regret it. I had mine done in a private hospital, it was wonderful, my own room with shower/toilet, the meals were out of this world as were the surroundings and the care.. I'd jump at it.
My hip-op was totally successful too.
Our worst times are always our best lessons.
