Why do the nights seem to go on forever when you cant sleep for the pain. Craig & jake are both fast asleep and ive been awake a couple of hours and cant get comfy again even though im really tired the pain keeps me awake,

Hope everyone is ok

Know that feeling, i hope you managed to get some sleep in the end, do you take amitriptyline at night to relax you and help you sleep?? You will need to speak to GP if it is becoming too much of a problem, as no sleep can make you feel a lot worse..

I've got to agree with traluvie about the amitriptyline. I had several years of not sleeping and it definitely made my pain worse. Was given amitriptyline about a week ago and it has made such a difference.

I am another on the amitriptylines...they really do help, like you say the nights seem to go on forever.
I do hope you get some help very soon, you can feel so much worse if you don't get any sleep.
    Love

I use distraction to help me get back to sleep, I wake about every 90 minutes or so with pain which is probably a good thing as I cannot turn over naturally any more and when I have slept reasonably well (which occasionally happens) the next morning soon eradicates the benefit that may have provided. I am lucky in that I can nap during the day if needed but if you have children and/or work I guess that isn't an option. Talk to your GP and see if he can offer any ideas. I wish you well. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Same here! I dread going to bed. My shoulders are so painful and for some strange reason are not to bad at all during the day.
I am at the stage where I am taking painkillers in the middle of the night.
My drugs need sorting but because I'm waiting to go in for an op my Rhuemy says I'll have to put up with it until after!!

I have taken amytriptilin before for panic attacks and also when my back, ive also got a damaged vertabrae. So will ask doctor as im going on wednesday. Im on sick at the moment as i still cant walk much bcos of the pain. My job is very demanding and quite hard at times. I broke down in front of my doctor 2 weeks ago. But i dread going to bed then wake up couple of hours later in pain. I fell back to sleep this morning at 6.30 and woke up at 8.45 but had an hour this afternoon.

Hi Amanda, I hope you get your sleep helped soon. I also have Ami, but because i have to be up at 6 tommorrow I havenr taken it, and because I forgot. It helps me too so I wish you all the best with that.
Have you had an OT assesment to see if they can help with things for the bed?, like do you need your legs raised, help in and out of bed etc etc.

    Take care x

I fell asleep last night watching tv and woke up then couldnt get back to sleep again i just ache all over because im so tired, because if i do manage to sleep its not a deep sleep. But will mention all the advise i been given to my doctor

Hi Amanda, This is the another Amanda! I have nights when I'm suffering from a flareup, like at the moment where I have good sleeps and bad where I wake up at around 2am then don't sleep the rest of the night! I take Amitriptyline and it does help except when I have a wake attack. All I can do when I can't sleep is stay awake and do a word search book and try and sleep the next night. Hope you find a way to stop the wakeing attacks.

    Hi Amanda,

Im going to defo ask doctor for some, i was on them a long time after my dad died. I had them for panic attacks. And since being of them have taken low doses for my back and when i had shingles. They used to make my mouth really dryall tje time.

Ive always loved my sleep and not being able to sleep bcos of pain makes me miserable.
