Nortriptyline

Has anybody taken a prolonged high dose of Nortriptyline and then had a bad reaction to it/them?, I ask as I've had two very unpleasant episodes with it, one was a few years back and I put it down to a pain killer I was on at the time but a few days ago exactly the same happened.
I reduced the dose but again I felt very odd for a fair few hours after taking a second dose the next day, today I've taken 2 but feel alight just now but I'm worried about taking any more if it goes the same way.
I don't want to go through that again in a hurry that's for sure, that said I'm not sure what I can other than reduce the dose, they work well for my neck spondulosis but nothing for my patella OA. Not sure if I should just keep to a lower dose or go back to my GP and try another one of the many tricyclics or not.

Thanks Val and Barbara, I've tried Gabapentin and Pregabilin and both made me hallucinate badly so I had to stop taking them, and message received and understood Val I'll go and see him this week.
